I had friends launching on the Grand Canyon the day after the shut down started. Lots of pictures of full on military grade weaponry, ramp guarded 24/7, and they were denied their trip with rafts sitting rigged and ready. A one month vacation saved up and scheduled, years and years on the waiting list, food packed etc. made no difference. They were not allowed to launch and had to return the following year. THAT is what happened at the last shutdown. I can't tell you how mad it made me and I said it before and I'll say it again: if we voted out every single congressman and senator that was in office and let that happen it would never happen again. Unfortunately people have a very short memory. Lol OK that was my rant for the year.I'm not saying I don't believe you, but if that was really the case, that is one of the most absurd things I have heard. Doing that would likely take as much or more staff as keeping the park open.
