Thanks...I appreciate the info. headed down fri - sun with my sons. the recent reports have not been to good. ill be sure to take some kastmasters.
Ron, they are 2 3/8 long, blade only plus hook and swivel. They don’t have a weight or size on them so I really don’t know which weight they are. Sorry I am late with this info but I was just able to look at them. Hope you had a great trip and slaughtered them! Let us know how you did.

When a striper school is chasing shad Kastmasters work well on the retrieve. Speed reeling works even better when stripers are off the bottom looking for shad.

When stripers are being lazy and holding on the bottom the school looks like a haystack. In this mode, slab spoons work better than Kastmasters. Drop the spoon to the bottom and jig it up and down about 2 feet off the bottom. Both of these techniques work all winter long. Right now with surface water temperature at 59F Kastmasters may be the best choice. When temperature drops below 55 shad schools will leave the surface and head into deep open water. This is when more deep water striper schools are found and when slab spoons work better.

This year has been very unusual and that may continue into the winter. My strategy is to take a two spooning rods - one with a Kastmaster and one with a slab spoon. Let the fish decide which one is best on any given day.

Thank you, I have wondered when to use which lure and this helps me.

According to the size chart on FishUSA, that is the 3/4 oz size. Heading down Thanksgiving, need to order some up. Thanks for the report.

Ok, I've heard all my life that there is no such thing as a dumb question, but to some folks this one may be borderline. I know what Kastmasters are. I've used 'em for years and I've got a box full of 'em. Heck, I even had one buried in my forearm one time. I've got a number of other heavy jigs too, but I'm at a loss to identify a slab spoon. What is a slab spoon? ...is that like a Daredevil or something

Check out Stickbow Shooters post today, he has a picture of some lures on his post. I am sure there are a ton of different slab spoons but the one on the right is a common one that has been mentioned on this site several times. I bought several but have wondered when to use them instead of the kastmaster and Wayne answered that for me above. I would consider all the lures pictured slab spoons but I may be wrong in that assumption, I am sure someone with more knowledge about lures than me will chime in and let us know, but to me they are all slab type spoons. The post is 11/6-11/10 South Camping/Fishing
