Moqui it is! That photo was taken in May 2024, when the lake was about 20 feet lower than it is today. The beach in the back definitely would not be quite as inviting now as it was then...definitely looks like the second cave campspot in Moqui
On my first trip to Powell in my own boat, we camped in Cha. A few friends and I took a very long hike up Cha to Teddy Roosevelt's camping spot at the North Rainbow Trail junction and came back a few hours later to find 8-10 ravens on my boat having an absolute party! They punctured several warm beer cans and opened every piece of food that wasn't locked up. Hot dog buns, chips, warm beer, granola bars- What a mess! Lesson learned... and my boat (and WaynesWords handle) were christened that evening. Raven Haven!I thought that the ravens might be the source of that
We had the same sort of experience at the Rainbow Bridge dock. We were the only people there, so the ravens had easy access to all that we had. PARTEEE! When we returned we saw them fly off (and I swear they were laughing at us). Chips and Cheetos everywhere, but he worst part was the big wet deposits of Raven poop all over the interior. I always wanted to know about that hike. Probably much tougher to get up there now with lower water levels. On my first trip to Powell in my own boat, we camped in Cha. Sunrises are my favorite. I'm always up before sunrise no matter what time I go to sleep, it's quite and you can hear every little sound in the canyon.Sunrise from Stanton Creek, June 8, 2024.
