That's Gunsight Pass. Only accessible when the lake is very full. We've driven our ski boat through it. Very cool.

I would love to see the lake back at this level. I believe the notch in the middle is Gunsight Pass. I can remember driving the houseboat through that in the 80's.

Yup, we drove the HB through the pass also, in '87 &'88.....

I was camped just to the left of Gunsite pass in 98, and watched Waverunners go through it at full throttle at 10 pm! Not a great idea hahaha. Shortly after that, a Ringtail Cat came INSIDE my tent to sample a banana. He scared the Bajeezuss out of us, but he was pretty chill.

I think so too but I the lake is lower than this now. There are good spots on the west side of Gunsight Canyon but the trip in by houseboat has been getting a bit treacherous. This years anticipated inflow should cure some of that by June

Bk2 - photos are like art, each person sees something different, I see shadows over padre as well as random rocks best viewed when wet and a glittering spiral of life… don’t forget the hidden captain Morgan bag.

At full pool everything was much different, I think the maps show that you could, yes.

We watched a helicopter at high speed bank right through it once

Yes. When the water was up much higher you could. It was a great short cut as long as no one was doing the same thing in the oposite direction.

That could be a really amazing photo if you could work all the timing and angles to get a shot looking thru rainbow bridge. Not to mention the technical photography know how to get a decent picture of the foreground while your lens is pointed at the sun.

I was just looking at Google Earth and hit the timeline view. It wound up accidentally creating this image for me with the top half from 8/15/19 (water level 3620.19) and the bottom half from 6/1/22 (water level 3532.1). IT is amazing to see the contrast in elevations and imagine how much acreage the lake will reclaim this spring/summer.
