If I heard Burts name used with Edison, Kelly Johnson or Elon Musk it wouldn't be out of place to me, a truly ingenious designer. His Voyager plane that flew around the world on one tank of fuel is in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

I loved John Denver but remember he'd lost his pilots license over his drinking problem and he was in a borrowed plane that day. Since each kit was customizable the fuel tank selector had been placed for a taller pilot up and out of his reach behind him. (that why they say "Experimental" on the door, not certified standard) He ran it out of fuel and spun in pushing in the rudder pedal for leverage straining to reach the selector. I think he's been running touch and goes out of Santa Monica and ran it out of gas, not the planes fault. Sad day, I remember it well, I was in the neighborhood learning to fly.

Also at Phillbo, Yeager didn't drink after his 20's so you didn't miss out on a drink with him but who was your dad, how did he know Chuck, Bud, Burt and Dick? I'd love to hear that story. Quite a group of guys to be around in your youth!

Yes, Dick was Burt's brother. My Father was an aeronautical engineer back in the days and became very good friends with Bob Hoover. Bob knew everyone.

I never liked John Denver's music.

I liked his music. It saddened me that he died so suddenly. He had a great voice.
At least he died quickly. It was ugly though. He hit so hard that the rescuers only found parts. They identified him by a ring and that he had some toes amputated by an accident years earlier. Never found his head, right arm and several internal organs.

He was one of my favorite artists when I was a kid. I learned a lot of his stuff on guitar.

Loved his music also. We named our SeaRay Druthers after his song “Druthers”. “If I had my druthers, I’d go fishing. Find myself a lake and a lazy day….”
 
Here is an interesting story about JD. In 1994 I took a charter to Holbrook az from Tucson.While I was waiting, I noticed a picture/info board in the airport and on it was a picture of a nicely restored Waco biplane that was for lack of a better term "balled up",when I asked the person there about it He said oh, that was John Denver's airplane,he bought it that morning in Carefree/N. Phx. ,This was his first fuel stop. He (JD) had walked away from it (lets call it an incident) but someone came after the airplane with a flatbed a few days later,who knew? I never looked any further into it (none of my business really) but if you all know any more please share
 
Sounds like he had a history and not a good one.


I had to put a 150 down on a canal bank once but that was due to a push rod punching a massive hole in a cylinder.... I never rented from that club again.
 
The only drones I witnessed flying were doing so around Antelope Point Marina slips Sunday evening despite all (at least ten) of the posted signs on the docks CLEARLY AND SPECIFICALLY informing of drones not being allowed. Imagine that?!?!
