I ran into the same problem last year planing a trip Oct. 4 - 12. I started monitoring lake levels, ramp closures etc. early. I've spent 40 years traveling up and down the entirety of the lake. The closure of dangling rope before it happened was unthinkable to me. I managed by carrying an extra 30 gals of gas. And I agree with the other comments about the peace and quiet. From Padre Bay to the San Juan was very enjoyable.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist. But it was odd that it was closed down in the first place. After all those years in Lake Powell storms and all of a sudden the docks are wind damaged and not usable? First it was "repaired in summer 2021", shortly after "closed till further notice". ??? And not one piece of information why any of it occurred or won't occur.

Thank you sir, very helpful. Glad NPS provided the info. Still, would like to know what the lake conditions, facility location, and other factors led to the destruction of this 40+ year old marina and landmark. It is useful info for all of us wether traveling on the lake at the time of such an event or have a vessel moored or in a slip.

"Deferred Maintenance" also played a big role in the issues at DR. Reading between the lines, there is infrastructure associated with the marina that should have been replaced some time ago. When relying on older components that are beyond their service life, you are unable to handle weather events that might have been managed previously. A broken connection leads to a cascade of failures along the whole line, including amongst components that were in good condition previously. This is an endemic problem with NPS facilities due to inadequate funding at nearly every NPS site. Now it will be far more expensive to correct than if it had been properly maintained in the first place.

Of course, never regarding our boats, motors, trailers, tow rigs, fishing tackle, etc.
....just unimportant things like our homes, the wife's car, children's food and clothing, etc.

Sure hope they come up with a solution soon to the DR issue. We only visit once a year and no marina really limits our stay.

I get it that few don’t like the wake board boats and I get really frustrated with them myself. But no DR really puts a damper on my fishing. We spend a few weeks mid-lake with several boats and the lack of fuel creates issues for us since we spend a lot of time hitting multiple locations so we don’t put too much pressure on just a few locations. If it doesn’t sell fuel this spring, we’ll be scrambling for solutions.
