Crappie fishing North

Had some crappie fillets for dinner tonight, and they were excellent. Caught them last fall in a place that a good friend tipped me on that I would not have thought of trying. With all of this craziness going on, I can't wait to get back down and catch a few myself. Have been looking and reading everyday waiting for the water to warm up close to 60. Every body has been saying how slow the fishing has been, or catching half a dozen or so. Then I read this report were my buddy goes down and catches fish were others have tried and failed. This is even more impressive when he can do it in a boat that he carries in the back of his truck and does it without the convenience of any electronics. I have had the privilege of fishing with Kevin or several occasions and he has not only taught me something every time but out fished me every time. I consider myself to be a pretty decent fisherman, I normally fillet well over a thousand fish a year, most being smallmouth bass. If someone told me "hey we're wanting to have a fish fry can you go and catch us a bunch" I know who I would call to help me go and bring them back. Kevin is the only person that I have ever meet that loves fishing as much as I do. The only other person I knew that loved to fish that much was my father, who is fishing on the other side now.
Can you catch crappie off the cliff banks just off shore?

Got to Powell Wensday, on the 25th, it blew the whole time I was there, but with all the sadness going on, it was still a great time just getting away. There is nothing like fishing to clear the mind of the thing's going on.
Ok, enough of that. I got there by myself, and started fishing around 10 am. there were fish coming up everywhere, at first I thought they were Striper. And I'm sure some were, but then I started seeing them. And the most of them were Big Gizzard Shad, 3 to 4 lbs easy. So that was enough of throwing for those.
I started fishing for what I came for, and that was Crappie. I used a white 1/16 oz fish head jig, with a limetreuse Yum grub, tipped with a chub minnow. And slow trolled or drifted when the wind gusted to hard to controll the boat. I caught a limit of nice Crappie, but they were slow, and the bite was real picky. But sometime when you have to work hard for them, it is rewarding.
My friend's Jerry and Sue, James, William, and there friend Dillon, got there at 5 pm, the fishing had picked up for them latter that evening. The boy's fished from the bank, and caught a variety of fish, Small and largemouth bass, Walleye and Crappie, throwing crank's, and jig"s. I took Jerry and Sue out and we trolled for Crappie. It was a great time even in the wind.
Have a good one.

Hello Kevin, I met you on the lake a couple years ago. Its good to see you got to the lake this year. The lake closure is really messing things up for me.
