Cell reception at Bullfrog?

Look into the OpenSignal app for your phone. It gives you a cell coverage map based on people using the app. Green Dots good, Orange not so good. Also has a internet speed test built in. So just because you have 4 bars LTE does not mean your internet speed is good. I do see some good connections in the middle of the lake at Bullfrog but not so good on shore. Don't see much for connections south of Halls until you get into the San Juan. More people that use this app the better the coverage map data.

Some years ago we got upgraded cell service at Bullfrog and Halls Crossing. Service is generally limited to the marina with some leaking into the houseboat fields. Service at the covered slips is spotty - could barely get a signal at covered slips at Halls Crossing and then only from the roof. Stanton Creek area is of sight Bullfrog and does not get any service.

All of the providers are there - Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile. In my experience at remote locations, Sprint and T-Mobile get lower priority and work poorly. Outside of the marinas your best bet will be Verizon or AT&T.

Anyone in line of sight with the top of Navajo Mountain will get service - except for T-Mobile, apparently they are blocking access to that tower.

Verizon works pretty well around the marina and the docks. It also works well whenever you have a direct line of site to the Marina. I have been in the bay directly across from Bullfrog and it will have ok reception. If you walk up on any of the hills or anywhere with a direct line of site to the marina i have had very good luck with reception/emails. Hate to say it but my cell phone working allows me to enjoy the trip and pay the bills.

The cell tower that services this area is up on Navajo Mountain to the south of Bullfrog Marina. Now, that doesn't mean you can't use the Wifi calling while at Bullfrog, but if you have a true cell phone service signal, it will be coming from the mountain. It still baffles me why Bullfrog doesn't have a cell tower, but they haven't put one up there as of yet.

I have ATT using an I phone I can send texts and make calls with phone from top of ramp at Bullfrog and all across the bay to Halls marina no problem. Can log on to free Wifi if within 100 feet plus minus of Halls marina store.
I get a half mile or so up or down lake I lose service. I can send texts and make calls at mouth of Escalante (the Navajo mountain thing)
I was with a friend several years ago in San juan arm he had great service (Verison) I had none (ATT). I have heard ATT will now work??? Can't verify that.
Years ago I could make calls out in the channel at the mouth of Cedar Canyon, I had Verizon then. A friend that has Verizon tells me he gets service there now?? I can't verify that either.

Anyone tried to use their att cell phone in halls creek bay in the last few months? Verizon always seems to work around bullfrog, curious about att.

have a great day,

Unless something has changed from last year in regards to transmission capabilities -- ATT generally only works in very isolated areas of Bullfrog bay and that is sketchy sometimes-- I have never had reception in Halls -- If you climb up one of the ridges you might pick up a signal -- as the lake gets busier the connections are real hit and miss even in Bullfrog- Best bet is to go to the marinas when you need reception

Thank you for your update, i missed it, have a great day! Unfortunately I need my phone, it allows me to get away.

I'm a one man operation and also need to keep in touch --- I tried switching to Verizon and found more or less the same issues. So I kept ATT who I have been with for 30 years. I can make calls and generally a text will go through (pictures will generally NOT go through) I receive emails sporadically in the Bullfrog area --- Though generally late at night I'll get a dump of emails--

I've adapted -- When necessary I go to the marina to hook into the wifi -- when that fails-- which is does sometimes-- I'll go to Defiance house and jump on the WIFI there which is 95% available for anything I want to do

I'm not sure if someone said it already.....I didn't read through all the replies. But if you can see the top of Navajo mountain you should have service with Verizon.

As I scroll through this thread I didn’t see anyone with sprint, I have sprint and have service in many areas of the lake, especially if I can see Navajo Mt., Bullfrog bay, some places in GH and pretty good in the SJ. I have been surprised where I do have it. At times can send pictures as well. I will try to pay better attention to where it is good and report back. Maybe my memory is not as good as I think and service is not as good as I remember but I report in At home and I have sent pictures while on the lake.

my brother has sprint and over the years he has had the same experience, i feel like powell and at&t are just not a good fit,

thank you, unfortunately i need cell service and it just seems like verizon has the corner of the market especially around bullfrog and halls creek bay, the siteline to Navajo seems to be key.
thanks again for your response, cheers

If you can see the peak of Navajo Mountain, that’s when it works the best,
Main channel and the Escalante,
I think there must be a tower on that mountain
