We were in the Escalante from Friday the 27th to Tues. July 1st. Really nice, uncrowded, and a really great trip--super quiet at nights, with no knuckleheads, just the way I like it!! We checked out CID last Friday afternoon, and someone had spread out all their stuff to camp there. I guess I don't understand the point of camping there, only to have EVERYONE come through. We did not land because it seemed *invasive*. I really wanted to hike over that dune and see the waterfall, but I also didn't want to have to deal with all that stuff all over the beach.

I was there last week, and there were 2 boats that were camped there and had all of their gear spread out. There wasn't any way to beach a boat there because the gear and boats blocked all access. It definitely was a shake your head moment to see that.

We were there Saturday and saw the same camp. Never encountered the people at their camp, but we and the boat that arrived after us both thought it was a crazy place to camp.

Just a few observations from this trip. We decided to camp up near the Rincon. Not far from the floating restrooms. On Saturday we had a boat pull up and ask if we had any toilet paper. I thought it was an odd question, but yeah, we had four rolls for our head on our boat. The floating restroom was totally out, and people were using other means, yuck! So, I gave the family two rolls and asked if they leave them at the restroom. On Monday when we left, we stopped to see if there was any left and it was gone and again, no toilet paper. One of the stalls was completely plugged and flowing over. A little disgusting for sure. You would think the powers at be would think the 4th of July weekend might be worthy of a toilet paper run? I guess not.
Then once we got to Bullfrog and had to pump out our blackwater, only 2 of the 6 pumps were actually working! We had to wait for three houseboats to pump out before we could take a turn. What should have been a 20-30 min process ended up taking about an hour and a half. Aramark stinks! Literally!

All in all, a great trip, the crowd seemed down a bit and the weather was good, didn't even have to run the AC a few nights because it was a comfortable temp by midnight.

Cheers. Adam,

In the future, I’d suggest photo documenting the issues and sending it to whoever at KSL did the recent story on these issues.

When we were at the lake last week my wife used the restrooms at Rainbow Bridge. The first stall she left as soon as she went in - said it was terrible. The 2nd one she said wasn’t bad at all.

We had 3 people use the RR at Escalante without complaints.

So it isn’t all bad (but certainly should be better).
