JFR! You are on every thread I see related to water, as a hobby Lake Powell hydrologist, I love looking at your posts. I strive to make the data I present on this site and others as clear and interesting as yours.
That's very nice Flow--much appreciated! I'm just a hobby hydrologist too, so we're in the same boat together so to speak...

what time is the measurement taken that appears on the water database website? I think I'll also try to go over and catch the moment the water touches from Warm Creek and Wahweap. The weather is pretty crappy this week for much of anything else!

It says 11:59 P.M. of the date listed.

Should hit 3580 early this afternoon.

It seems to me that the LPWDB description of 3580 as being Absolute Minimum Usable Elevation is a bit of a misnomer. It sounds like that's the elevation where the ground is covered with water. I guess that makes it usable for surface insects. Until these recent discussions I assumed the cut was covered at about 3578, navigable at idle, trim up, in a bassboat at 3580. Will be fun to read today's recon!
Let's hope we get another winter of at least average precipitation and the dry cut will be a faded memory.

So what’s up...did Warm Creek shake hands with Wahweap yet???

Memorial Day weekend’s a comin’.........

I know, hoping for report from Pegasus but blown out. Cut must be wet, but not much hope for the weekend. The cold weather, I assume, dropped the Colorado River flow by about 4000 cfs today versus Sat.

I figured the 'touch' would occur this afternoon around 4 pm MST. When I went to leave APM to cruise there at 3.28pm, the winds were gusting from the west at 35, full cloud cover and barely 60 F. So I didn't go over to watch the two sides touch. And I"m glad I didn't chance it as the rains came soon after and the day never got any better. But I bet they touched without me there!

I'll try again tomorrow if the winds die down. By then I should be able to measure depth! I've had better weather here in the winter than what it is this week! This moment it is 55.4F with wind chill of 46 and just had a gust of 43 mph.

Lot's of anticipation, but as I vaguely recall from one of the previous cut floodings, there appeared to be several feet of water but the NPS set up barriers on both ends until they could set the navigation bouys. Was very frustrating. Too bad NPS isn't providing any info on the cut on their website.

Any more news on the cut? We will be up Friday and hope to avoid maytag! We will be in our TR21 bass boat, so worst case scenario I was hoping to just try trolling through the cut if necessary, but I guess that wouldn't even be an option if they setup barriers.

That's interesting to know about the bouys. I would think it would be much easier to place navigation bouys in while it was dry, than go back after it was flooded.

As of Tuesday, the lake was at 3580.24, and it rose 6 inches to get there. If you assume another 6 inches today, tomorrow and Friday, that puts it at about 3581.7 by Friday... or clearance of 1.7 feet. Can your boat manage that?

I don't think so. Maybe with a light load, but we will be loaded down this trip. I wouldn't even try it unless there is +2' in the cut to be safe. So maybe on our way back down to Wahweap, if we get lucky.
