Bullfrog Executive ramp or “North Ramp"

I felt this info was better placed in its own thread so that those wondering, didn’t have to sift through a full fishing report, if they were simply looking for ramp updates.

At the end of the ramp, you virtually flatline at 20 foot of water (underneath my 18 foot fishing boat) until you start to head around the breakwater. Pic snapped on April 6th at 9:43 AM. Lake level 3528.

I snapped it just as you start to climb out of the 20 foot flatline, towards the ramp.

I had 12 foot of water, again, under my boat. hugging the corner of the breakwater. On the way out I had 11 and and change but really hugged the breakwater on my way back and had 12 and change. Potentially, you could cut through the breakwater where the houseboats are, but the hard fact is, you’re still only looking at a realistic drop of 10-15 foot (maybe 17 foot if you’re real dating) before launching isn’t possibly anymore.

Where they set that actual number, who knows. Maybe it would be up to the individual user, how low you’d be willing to go.

Are boiler plates in place at the bottom of the executive ramp?
I'm hoping to head down in a couple of weeks with my own boat for a maintenance trip for our houseboat that is out in the Halls buoy field, but I'm very skeptical that we'll be able to make the full family trip in July if we can't launch that late in the summer.

In short, I don’t know.

In long, the water was murky enough that I couldn’t tell. I did however hear my trailer tire hit what sounded like a boiler plate but can not confirm. I don’t believe they removed them when they installed them three or so years ago. But again, unsure.

Bullfrog Marina update.
We're at BF currently, arrived Saturday before Easter. It's very quiet, not much noticeable work and few boaters. We came to assure our houseboat was squared away before the move.
We boated to Halls. The Halls launch ramp has been extended along the uplake shore and the BF rentals and the fuel dock are positioned there with dock access to the shore at the base of the launch ramp for renters to load out. The fuel dock lies fairly far out into the main channel and it sort of protected by an east-west tire barrier on the downstream side. The zone from there north to Halls marina is all now within a wakeless zone protected by a N-S tire barrier. Access down to the marina is a long, narrow path with many switchbacks.

We were told today by Capt. Matt that the BF marina will lie just to the north of Halls marina. There is a round spit of land about where the current Halls tire line is, on the upstream side, that seems to be where they plan to put BF. The HC and BF marinas will not be connected to each other. BF will have it's own shore connection and admin (NPS, Engineers etc...) are still going through the process it determining the exact connecting point for land access. Today we watched them move a tire barrier into place on what looks like will the uplake side of the BF marina slips. They, tentatively, plan to move O dock next Monday, 4-13. He said they then sequentially move each dock from that same side of the marina (work dock, M dock etc) then the main walkway then the other docks (N, L, etc).

He also said the marina will have the same layout as it is now. As one steps off land, it would be at the store, office and on to the slips. Dock N and O would be the farthest from land like now. It takes a full day to slowly drag a finger dock of boats across. Then some time, days?? to anchor, connect to other docks etc. He estimated about a month to get moved. Schedules will be effected by weather and unexpected bumps and the fact that there are still decisions being made by various admin groups. We think it could easily be a month before power and water is provided to the BF dock across the lake.

He painted a grim picture for the summer. They expect the BF exec ramp will become unusable sometime this summer and BF bay will essentially be a mud flat. Boat launching will be at your own risk from shore.

We also drove out to Stanton Creek. That canyon has Y and the current road ends on the plateau between the split in the Creek at a cliff. Looking at the proposed launch site plot in the documents that were previously posted, the potential new ramp site is to the north of Stanton Creek Rd and currently cannot be scouted unless by foot. There is fence now preventing any vehicle off roading to scout the site. Capt. says they still aren't even sure exactly where that road, ramp, parking will be
It's still being studied. It's between 4-5 miles from the highway to the water. The current road is mostly gravel and is rough and slow. He says it could be a couple years to get that ramp in which could mean losing the ability to launch anything more than a canoe at the north end of the lake for 2 years.

We did not discuss some of the other logistic issues like getting across to HC from BF to ones houseboat and getting gear down to the docks and houseboat from the potential parking area up on the Mesa above the marina.

The fuel docks are open at HC ($7.18/gal yesterday)
The pump out still up and running on the BF side. The BF store is open on call 9-4. The mobile pump out service is currently available. There is no fresh water on the BF docks and the restrooms are closed. There is a rental hb moored behind the office for bathroom use.

I will add a few photos to this post in a bit.

I'm sure someone is here that knows if they got pulled out or not. Thats gonna be some valuable intel shortly.🤞

I have looked at all the bathymetry for Bullfrog. There is a 10-20 foot drop where things drop into the historic Bullfrog Creek after we get into the flats. That is why there were no guarantees after we get below 3519'. At 3519', the whole area is basically a table top until it hits the creek area. Realistically, we need to get the State of Utah involved to get them to put a ramp in at the Hall's Ferry location if we want anything in the short term.

I know you mean 3519. And fantastic idea to reach out to Utah. Who would that be?

Helpful information thank.you.
I am still clinging to the hope that a temporary launch pad to launch houseboats , currently in Bullfrog Dry Storage,( like mine), will be installed somewhere below the Bullfrog old launch pad or wherever to get boats in this summer and fall? Does anyone have any information on that project?
Thank you,

Of course! I fat fingered that elevation. There are several people to reach out to that may be helpful.
You can use the constituent services form to contact Governor Cox: https://cs.utah.gov/s/submit
You can use this form to find your Utah state legislator or senator: District Map
The legislator for the Bullfrog area is lmonson@le.utah.gov
The senator for the Bullfrog area is dhinkins@le.utah.gov
You can also reach out to UDOT directly, but I don't think that will be helpful.

Excellent information. Thanks for the detailed report.

The water table data seems to have been adjusted...down.😒. We are planning to arrive April 17th. Any current update on Bullfrog Ramp Conditions?
Yes I don’t have any insight as to that. I thought the flattened of the water level made sense as there was just the tip of the top of a tree sticking out, by our camp. I expected to see a little more of it each day and I did not. It just stayed the same and so did the marks from my boat, in the beach. So, everything seemed to jive with what I was seeing real time. But….the graph now says otherwise. Odd.

Just for fun I always drive a wood stake right at waters edge as soon as I arrive.
Then over the next couple days you get to watch rise or fall.

The LPWD is using the wrong number.

NPS says 3525 is the magic elevation but I thought it was 3519 with boiler plates installed at the last low water.

Again, Lake Powell Water Database reports data from official sources. The benefit of that site is to aggregate and store official numbers over time. There can be occasional hiccups. It's a free, labor of love, resource that brings together data that was once difficult to gather and visualize. Use it if it suits you. Otherwise, consult the official sources (several of which are linked from our homepage).
