Bringing kids down this weekend, and looking for LMB....advice please

I've done really well for largemouth casting top water over weeds and around standing trees in the back of coves. Spooks and poppers work well but I really like the large whopper ploppers...even caught a huge sunfish on one last fall. Throwing Ned rigs around the trees and bushes had also been successful but you get more smaller and catfish as well.

You should give the small mouth a go. They are much more abundant, give a better fight, in in my opinion, better to eat. Tube jigs and ned rigs in a green or brown (crawdad colors) fished on the broken rock walls and points works for us. If you are set on the large mouth, they like the brushy cover. I have my best luck where I can find a single bush submerged in an otherwise brushless area. Sometimes these are hard to find, but if you do find one it is almost guaranteed to have several largemouth around it. They also like the shady side of large boulders in shallow water. Good Luck

This is what we do, if boiled down we target smallmouth, luckily at Powell you can by catch many species. Seems that if you’re targeting smallies, largies will be in the very best spot of given stretches of structure. Of course they can also be random.
