Boycott the NFL -- Enjoy Lake Powell in its stead

does anyone know if the nfl is considered a non profit tax exempt organization?

From what I could find all money making entities within the league (the actual teams themselves) aren't tax exempt, but that in some years (most of its existence and since 1942) the office of the NFL is exempt.

The NFL has historically filed as a 501(c)(6) non-profit, the same designation given to business leagues, trade groups and organizations like the American Medical Association. While the league was a 501(c)(6) non-profit with revenues around 10 million, the teams themselves are not with their revenues of around 900 gazillion dollars.

Roger Goodell announced in April of 2015 it would give up that status going forward as it had become a distraction. The winner here is probably Goodell since dropping the status means his and other league salaries need not be publicly disclosed.

This change also has no effect on all the other government largesse the NFL benefits from. Taxpayers are generally on the hook for new stadiums and the like.

Please note that I am unsure whether that change in status ever took place. Prying a dollar bill from the hands of a Corruptocrat s very difficult and is usually a matter of saying it for the PR and then never following through.

Traveling around the world in both an official (military) and unofficial (tourist) capacity we were always told to think of yourselves as emissaries of the United States to show others in other countries that very few Americans are "Ugly Americans". Trust me, I have seen more of those than I care to remember.

Lest any have decided to forgive the prima donnas, it doesn't get any uglier than this!

Ravens, Jaguars Kneel For National Anthem But Stand For 'God Save The Queen'

NFL teams playing in the U.K. protested Trump on foreign soil.

NFL players are planning an across-the-league protest Sunday after President Donald Trump used Twitter to attack professional athletes during the national anthem.

But the demonstrations took a weird turn early Sunday, when the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens, who are playing an NFL "exchange" game in the U.K., linked arms to protest the Star Spangled Banner — but stood during God Save the Queen.

Most Ravens and Jaguars players took a knee during the national anthem, and those that did not, stood arm-in-arm in a show of team unity. Both teams tweeted support for protesting players, explaining that they were behind their athletes "100%."

But as the Star Spangled Banner came to a close, players stood up and remained standing as the U.K.'s national anthem, God Save the Queen, played.

They may not have realized it, but the protesting players stood to honor a foreign government, while protesting their own president, thousands of miles away from the United States. Even stranger, they stood for a national anthem honoring a country that once colonized their own, ostensibly pledging allegiance to a foreign head of state.

The gesture did not go unnoticed:

The vitriol on this thread is impressive, especially since the insult is quietly kneeling. I too would prefer they all stand. I believe that the best way to avoid getting shot by a cop is to obey the instructions of the officer. But sometimes a little perspective is helpful. Sorry if you disagree, but I was brought up Christian and was taught tolerance, forgiveness of others and turning the other cheek. Those values seem to be un-American these days.

Who do they harm by taking a knee? No one really. Do veterans really expect that EVERY person supports their sacrifice? That is not realistic in a free society.

Standing for the national anthem is not a statement of support for soldiers, it is a statement of patriotism and honoring the country. The flag code specifically indicates that saluting the flag is done to honor the flag. Believing it is done to honor veterans is at best misguided and at worst lacking of humility. Even the most ardent patriot would have to admit that our country is divided right now. It is a harder time than now than since the 60's to be an American who is also Muslim, Hispanic, African American, Asian, Gay, or even one who believes tolerance is good thing. Unless you are a person who refuses to question that Fox News is fair and balanced, these are troubling times.

If you are offended by people taking a knee imagine how you would feel if those in power put statues up to honor those who fought against your freedom and tried to keep your ancestors enslaved (Read the justification for succession for SC, MS and TX). Imagine if you were subjected to real or perceived Jim Crow type laws yet still be asked to fight for those who don’t feel you deserve equal rights (read the history of the Tuskegee Airmen). Imagine if you believed, correctly or incorrectly, that you were subject to more violent treatment by those who enforce the laws in your community.

Would you rather the protest statements be peaceful or violent? I would rather see Kaepernick kneel than Eric Rudolf bomb, Timothy McVeigh destroy, Dylann Roof shoot or Micah Johnson kill cops.

And regarding the Dear NFL Letter: Really; “We The People” are only those people who agree with you? Sounds like the values of the people we typically fight against. Football players have ZERO impact on your life? Then why are you angry? And the example of “Heros” vs “Unhero” makes “Unheros” of most of the Patriots of the Revolutionary war, every person who have ever said that what our government is doing is wrong (including almost every person who commented on Bear Ears or EPAs handling of Gold King), MLK, The Tea Party (Koch brothers not the Boston patriots), Brigham Young, Franklin Roosevelt, Muhammad Ali and Abe Lincoln and last and best; any person who ever criticized a sitting president (any sitting president). With that perspective there are many on this board, including me, who are not very heroic by your definition.

I was on this board praising JJ Watt for using the attention and prestige of being a football player to raise millions for Harvey relief. It would be hypocritical of me not to do support other players who use their position to gain attention for a cause they believe in, just because it is not a popular one and just because I disagree with them.

Lions Owner Had To Sweeten Players With Deal To Stand For Anthem

Detroit Lions Owner Martha Ford came up with a solution for the current player protests of the national anthem: offering donations.

Ford is offering her players both donations and her name towards their own philanthropic pursuits in exchange for the players not kneeling during the presentation of the national anthem, and it appears to be working, The Detroit Free Press reports.

“As a team, we came together, talked to Mrs. Ford, the owners, and we understand the issues for the most part, generally,” Lions running back Ameer Abdullah told reporters. “Me personally, I definitely want to be an aid in growing the social awareness in this country, that it is a race problem in this country.”

“We do dance around the topic a lot and Mrs. Ford has come forward and said that as long a we compromise as a team and unify and make a unified demonstration, she’ll back us financially,” he said. “So I’m definitely going to hold her to her word.”

Only two Lions players kneeled Sunday: linebackers Steven Longa and Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

The protests began in the 2016-2017 National Football League (NFL) season with former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

He told reporters in 2016: “I’m going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed. To me, this is something that has to change. When there’s significant change and I feel that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent, and this country is representing people the way that it’s supposed to, I’ll stand.”

Protesting the national anthem has precipitated from the NFL to Pop Warner football teams across the nation. Some have faced serious consequences, such as the two high school football players in Texas that were kicked off their team in late September for kneeling during the national anthem.

...blah, blah, blah...DETAIL PROVIDED BELOW...

Your post seems like canned talking points available on CNN, MSNBC and to a lesser extent even Fox these days. I notice you mention Tea Party & Koch but NOT Black Lives Matter/Antifa and Soros who dwarfs the Koch brothers in both amounts of monies, pots he stirs & countries he attempts to destroy. Soros just didn't make the cut, huh? Interesting. Not because the Kochs are somewhat, and I do say somewhat, conservative and Soros is radically left, hmmm.

Here's a trivia question: What do the Kochs and George Soros have in common? Answer: They both are open borders globalists and they both hate Trump.

You mention almost all right wing crazies and only one BLM crazy cop killer when the stats are dramatic in the other direction. Just couldn't think of any more of the vastly superior numbers of left wing crazies, huh? Oh well. it happens.

You speak to showing disrespect for the American Flag, National Anthem and this country in general as being pretty much as American as 'apple pie' but, where were you when the NFL prohibited the Dallas Cowboys from honoring the slain police officers? Just didn't catch that part of the news? More on this at the end.

It is also patently obvious that the American Flag & the National Anthem are NOT the sole property of veterans and we don't honor them to solely honor veterans. These symbols of America are reminiscent of why this country was founded and everything good and everything that can be good in this country. Not the least of which are our veterans who sacrificed much just by serving. Without this horrible country many of the supposed aggrieved groups you point to would be imprisoned or worse.

Incidentally on a side note of innocent little Kaepernick that is so peaceful: Just this week Colin Kaepernick donated $25,000 to a group named after convicted cop killer and former Black Liberation Army member Assata Shakur who broke out of jail and fled to Cuba. You knew that, right? This is the one that started this "as American as Apple Pie" protest movement.

The vitriol in this country comes from the LEFT almost exclusively but even attempting to discuss this seems futile if you don't already see that. "There is nothing to be learned from the second kick of a mule."

Now let's get to the educational part of my post.

You say in your words(emphasis mine),

  • "the insult is quietly kneeling."
  • "Who do they harm by taking a knee? No one really."

    -But you also say-

  • Standing for the national anthem is not a statement of support for soldiers, it is a statement of patriotism and honoring the country.
  • The flag code specifically indicates that saluting the flag is done to honor the flag."

So taking a knee, while not specifically intended to dishonor veterans IS specifically intended to dishonor and disrespect the country and the flag. These are your words, no?
So we should not be surprised when anyone who loves this country is incensed by this? Right?

A few other 'odds & ends' or maybe that's 'odd ends' in your post:

1.
"I believe that the best way to avoid getting shot by a cop is to obey the instructions of the officer."
I do agree that it really isn't that hard to NOT get shot by the cops

2.
"Sorry if you disagree, but I was brought up Christian and was taught tolerance, forgiveness of others and turning the other cheek. Those values seem to be un-American these days."
Who are you kidding. The least tolerant people on the planet are the LEFT or did you miss the part about lefties glad that the Vegas shooter was killing conservatives??? This canard is a red herring but also notice how you imply that anyone disagreeing with you is not tolerant or forgiving or willing to turn the other cheek as indicated with your "Sorry if you disagree," qualifier. Nobody ever said they were against these things but you reap what you sow and in your words, they are disrespecting the country and flag and thus are subject to the slings and arrows their actions beg for. You agree, right??

3.
"Do veterans really expect that EVERY person supports their sacrifice? That is not realistic in a free society."
You are absolutely right but the majority of the country are also free to think that these people that think this way are dirtbags. Right? You support that freedom, right?

4.
"It is a harder time than now [sic] than since the 60's to be an American who is also Muslim, Hispanic, African American, Asian, Gay, or even one who believes tolerance is good thing."
This is in a word, nonsense. The OPPOSITE is actually true. This victimhood card is soooo old right now. The most protected classes of "victims" right now are the list you stated. Read up on the Frankfurt School and the deliberate attempt to create these "victim" classes for radical Marxist political change.

5.
"Unless you are a person who refuses to question that Fox News is fair and balanced, these are troubling times."
Troubling times, YES but mostly for anyone believing in the freedom of speech and thought and politics if you are traditional or conservative. Eight years of a president 'community organizer' whose only real strength was in division and the fomenting of hatred in the country has taken a severe toll. Get a grip! Try wearing a MAGA hat to any college campus or any liberal area in the country. (Safety tip: Be armed if you do)

6.
“We The People” are only those people who agree with you?"
No, actually this is from the millons upon millions of retweets of this message and the most recent polls indicating that the VAST majority of NFL fans plan to cut back viewing or abandon it altogether as a result of these disrespectful protests. You do understand the concept of "majority" right?

7.
"I was on this board praising JJ Watt for using the attention and prestige of being a football player to raise millions for Harvey relief. It would be hypocritical of me not to do support other players who use their position to gain attention for a cause they believe in, just because it is not a popular one and just because I disagree with them."
So where were you when the NFL was:
o Threatening Players Who Wanted to Commemorate 9/11. In September 2016, three NFL players planned to wear cleats in honor of the 15th anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America. The NFL put a stop to it with threats of fines

o Fining a Player over Breast Cancer Advocacy. In 2015, the NFL fined a player $5,757 for wearing eye black that read “Find the Cure” in support of breast cancer awareness.

o Ordering Players Not to Honor Fallen Police Office In July 2016, in honor of five police officer murdered in cold blood by a Black Lives Matter activist, the Dallas Cowboys wanted to honor the slain officers with a small helmet decal. The NFL put a stop to it.

o Fining Player Over Raising Awareness for Domestic Violence In 2015, NFL player William Gay was fined for wearing purple cleats meant to raise awareness for domestic abuse.

Or is Disrespecting the flag and country pretty much the limits of your incense and support of the 1st Amendment?? And hurricane relief, oh yeah and of course cute puppies.

One last ridiculous aspect of the "Let's rewrite history" movement or shouldabeennamed "The let's tear down this evil country and start over" movement. It is our history and it is what it is. That said, with whatever bad this country has ever been involved in it is still the MOST free, tolerant, permissive, respecting of all peoples and inherently good country that has ever existed on this planet, EVER!

You also speak of heroes and mention some of what I presume are your heroes like FDR and Ali.
  • Would that be the FDR that navigated us through most of a world war or the FDR that put the 'Great' into the Great Depression or the FDR that had a mistress in the People's House, or the FDR that put persons of Japanese ancestry into internment camps?
  • And Ali, was that the great boxer Cassius Clay, or the Muslim draft dodger Muhammad Ali or the Black Separatist Muhammad Ali that preached to not mix the races or intermarry?
You also rebut a definition of heroic that nobody put forth with, "there are many on this board, including me, who are not very heroic by your definition." Being a hero is NOT awarded as a "Participation trophy." It is earned through heroic acts and not by default. It takes great heroism to get that ticket punched. A few more got that ticket punched in Las Vegas yesterday. You and crybaby millionaires have offered nothing but whiny attitude. This is NOT what heroes are made of. I am sorry if anyone on this board ever gave you the impression that you are heroic just because you exist. That would be a terribly cruel joke to play on you and no one deserves that . . usually.

This may not be the best time TuscontoTexas but I happen to know that my ancestors lived in Cave 226a on the east side of Cro-Magnon Park which was at the time on the other side of the river from Neanderthal Village.

Turns out that your ancestors from Neanderthal Village raided Cave 226a, enslaved my relatives, took all of their food and furs and sticks and stones, even bopping several of my female relatives (back then there were only two genders, not 26) on the head and forcibly raping then marrying them. I'm not altogether certain which happened first or if traditional marriage even existed but the point is the same.

My family is deserved of reparations and compensation from your relatives for the injustices your relatives visited upon us. It was monstrous and we demand justice. Our version of course and just for us.

Please provide contact info with a financial statement to my attorneys, Dewey Cheatem & Howe to begin the talks of reparations. Your tolerant cooperation would be appreciated. You do want to make things right don'tcha'??

Please come forward, be a hero and make things right,

Too many comments to address! I WILL NOT WATCH ANOTHER NFL GAME UNTIL THESE OVERPAID, ILLITERATE, PATHETIC AMERICA HATING, RACE HUSTLER LOSERS ARE GONE, and the NFL returns to the game of Football!!!!

THE NFL TODAY Here are some fun facts about the hypocrites aka "the jerks" that rule over the NFL....In 2012 the NFL had an issue with Tim Tebow kneeling for each game to pray, they also had an issue with Tebow wearing John 3:16 as part of his blackout to avoid glare and made him take it off. In 2013 the NFL fined Brandon Marshall for wearing green cleats to raise awareness for people with mental health disorders... In 2014 Robert Griffin III (RG3) entered a post-game press conference wearing a shirt that said "Know Jesus Know Peace" but was forced to turn it inside out by an NFL uniform inspector before speaking at the podium..... In 2015 DeAngelo Williams was fined for wearing "Find the Cure" eye black for breast cancer awareness AND William Gay was fined for wearing purple cleats to raise awareness for domestic violence. (not that the NFL has a domestic violence problem... In 2016 the NFL prevented the Dallas Cowboys from wearing a decal on their helmet in honor of 5 Dallas Police officers killed in the line of duty. Again, In 2016 the NFL threatened to fine players who wanted to wear cleats to commemorate the 15th anniversary of 9/11. So tell me again how the NFL supports free speech and expression?

I am a little unclear about what you mean. A little ambiguous. Can you clarify?:p

Not sure what you are missing?:) I learned a lot of my football skills from Green Bay Packer Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer, who graduated from my high school and came home and taught us kids the game in the off season. I think he would be highly insulted by the race baiting, overpaid losers that get the headlines today!

When the NFL and the commentators quit playing the race card, and the rest of the liberal crap, and return to their jobs of reporting the game, without the liberal bias, I might watch pro football again.
