Blue notch bombers!

I second the notion of “it’s time to go fishing”. I was looking at spring dates today, and I’m counting on you guys to have a launching area for me, at bullfrog, in early April

Curious why the inflatables aren't considered for these remote access areas. Aside from hooks puncturing the tubing, what would be the other downside?

We often use inflatables on reservoirs and small lakes around Utah and have never worried about hooks puncturing the tubing. In over 30 years of using inflatables, I have never seen a hook puncture the tubing. Anyway, last spring when the launching at Bullfrog was iffy, I was looking at planning a trip into Blue Notch and using my inflatable raft in that area. I would be rowing and not using any kind of motor and would have little fear of doing so. As long as you are staying in the small bays and not getting out into the open main channel, the wind or any other element would be of little concern. Obviously, fishing from an inflatable without a motor confines your fishing area but it is very doable even on Lake Powell.

In fact, my plan was to park the truck near the highway, load up the side-by-side with all of my camping gear and boat, and drive it up the Blue Notch road. I figured this would actually make the drive quicker and easier and more of an adventure than trying to drive the truck in.

You can follow the mud line on Sentinel. Looks like right now it is a little past blue notch. As others have mentioned the bottom around blue notch is no longer rock but mud. This means a storm can quickly turn clear to murky. The furthest I saw the mud line go last year was around the floating outhouse. This year is looking much much bigger.

We went down May 5-9 last year. Starting above Knowles, the visibility started becoming marginal in the main channel. We fished some of the good habitat downstream on the opposite bank from the floating bathroom at GHB and the visibility was about 6”. I would guess with a (hopefully) decent runoff the mudline is going to rip far downstream this year.
