Battery Issue

They have certainly got my attention, but I can’t afford two of them at this time (lol and not likely in the future, hoping they come down). If I replaced two front trolling motor batteries I could save 75 lbs off the bow.

Saw one of the pro guys who is sponsored holding one out in from of him with one hand, and weight is just the beginning of the supposed benefits. Run time, life span, charging speed, drain ability.... really contemplating doing a bunch of overtime for a month straight lol. Youd hope future competition and market does bring them down, even just a little.

I just replaced all three batteries this spring though... if I save $83 a month starting now in three years I can replace with lithium lol.

my yellow tops are 12 years old in the drag car. Run them dead often and 2amp recharge. Good to go.

Our three 12v trolling motor lead acids will be 5 years old this year...
We plan to upgrade our trolling motor (36v Terrova, G1 currently, looking at G2 Ulterra) and front graph come spring...and plan to replace the three trolling motor batteries too. the batteries are 60 lbs. each, so we too have been thinking about other options...
We have NOCO on-board smartchargers on both the troller's and starting/house (Optima's) batteries. We had NOCO on the previous boat too, and have been very pleased their products to date.
I am interested in hearing more trolling battery options...??

There are battery chargers that will tell you if the battery is dead or not. My noco will recondition a deep cell if it can. It might be worth getting a new smart battery charger.

I also have a smart charger that will recondition (desulfate) the battery and detects bad cells. Deep cycle batteries can recover from deep discharge.

As time goes on they are finding more sources for lithium (including around the Salton Sea). As more sources become available, the price should drop. The battery storage business for solar and wind power is driving the technology.
