Anyone still catching fish on anchovies on the North end?

but, looks like we will try and make a quick run up to the North end and give it a go Saturday and Sunday. We'll post a report after the short trip.

You will catch fish I am sure. Forgot to tell you to take a blanket, the nights are pretty cool. Have a great time and be safe.

Waiting on more confirmation of boils.
Water temptures are still to warm and shad population is plentiful lake wide. When temps cool and stripers prepare for winter, boils should produce healthy fish as will winter fishing as the lake cools and water level drops.
 
A follow up on the dead boat on our week long trip. As I reported above we had one of our boats blow an out drive while we were on a house boat trip last week. I towed the boat to the Wahweap boat shop not having any previous history or experience with them. After tearing into the 1988 Volvo out drive and informing us that the parts are not available commercially they located a couple on ebay and even went beyond what we expected and found one locally from a guy who would trade Merc parts for the Volvo part we needed. They made the trade on our behalf and repaired the boat for about half of their original estimate which I felt was a bargain. We were planning to be near Panguitch hunting this weekend and they notified us it would be ready for pick up so we took an extra truck and made the 4 1/2 hour round trip to get the boat on Saturday. I am totally impressed with the shop help and the front desk guy Dave, these guys were professional and friendly every time we spoke to them. We hear so much negative information these days that I wanted to give these guys a high five for making our bad fortune a little easier to swallow. They would get my recommendation any day! Thanks go out to all of the Wahweap marina boat shop personnel for being the kind of people I can speak highly of and their service went above what was expected.
One thing I did not mention in my report above was I did see water temps in the upper 70's up the SJ when we were there last week.

I second that, also had good experience with Wahweap marina boat shop. Had a fuel starvation issue on my houseboat 2015 Merc 115 hp outboard. Didn’t want to haul it into town if I could help it.

Without an appointment, Wahweap boat shop ‘squeezed’ me in. Very experienced mechanic hooked up a laptop, diagnosed a fuel pump failure (apparently common as Merc has issued an ‘updated’ fuel pump module).

Mechanic suspected this was the problem but made sure to confirm it using the computer, even showed me what parameters proved it had failed.

Wahweap boat shop had the revised part in stock, had me out in an hour. Awesome.

We fished lower end of Good Hope to Farley and White Saturday and Sunday with very little wind and did not see a single boil or slurp. 81-82 water temp... Lots of fish on the graph...but no takers
 
We ran into one small boil right across from the primitive boat ramp at Hite Sunday afternoon in about 10' of water. I had 3 kids on the boat so we only pulled 1 - 18" striper out of it before they disappeared.

If you go over Labor Day the hot fishing North is below the boils or slurps. Drop a 3/4 of 1 oz kastmaster or similar spoon below the graphed fish do 3 aggressive full for length lifts and drops then speed reel to the top. If you are catching steady the school will stay right with you. The hooked fish regurgitate shad on the way up and a frenzy starts. You can also throw some anchovy chum to keep them under you. More poles are better so take the grandkids the large hooks make removal easy. The mega schools usually start before good hope bay on the corners and go well past it. If you lose a school just move to the next one. I have Wayne some buoy numbers in an old post a few years ago just before good hope bay when he was filming a tv show and that school has existed every year. I'll try to find the old post but it's not far up from Knowles and cedar on a hard corner.
We will be there on channel 68.

Thanks Troy, I just figured out how to go back and look at the post from 2017, got the MM numbers and will be there next week. I will definitely try that area and try repeating your success. Thanks for the help, I will report when we get back on the 22. Looking forward to trying some ploppers early in the mornings too. I was gone for a week on Powell and I missed some of these posts, catching up while things are slow on WW page.

As I recall it was buoy 114 and 116 Lots of boiling stripers!

I’m currently at BF with my parents. Had a hard time catching on chovies today. I talked to a couple of anglers and they had the same issue. We caught a few stripers in random canyons going north of BF BUT we got plenty of SMB under the walls across from BF marina. The catch of the day was this tiny little fella

Will write a report of the weekend trip once I get back home

Anchovies work in the spring time when shad numbers are small. Currently, there are more shad available to all species of fish. All sport fish are eating shad. There is no reason to expect bait to work when shad are overabundant. Instead, get a jigging spoon that resembles a shad. Fish the spoon in shad/striper schools. This new technique will change your fishing success dramatically.
