There have been many good suggestions made on this post for keeping small children safe on the lake. I'd like to add one. We purchased and use Safety Turtles. Each child wears a wrist unit all the time. It requires a special tool for removal by an adult. If this gets wet a loud alarm sounds on the base unit. Of course the unit would have to be removed or the alarm turned off if the children are allowed to play in the water along the beach. The manufacturer claims a range of 200' if unobstructed by walls. It works fine around the circumference of our cruiser, through it's thin walls.
