Yeah the old school rigs are a bit different. They’re all the same concept, though. The modern rigs are just an evolution of those old school rigs like you have. If you google umbrella rig and Alabama rig, they come up with the same things. My arms were breaking off because the particular rig I was using had thinner wires that are meant to pulse in the water when you pump your rod, so it makes it look like the school got spooked and is changing direction or fleeing. The vast majority of modern rigs have heavy duty wires that won’t break.
These flex allso, just about twice the diameter as the other. I'm getting ready for my third trip this month as I speak. I will be casting the smaller rigs for sure. Thanks to your video. And I am going to get serious on the Crappie and get the lights out if my body will allow for the night fishing. And believe me, I am old school just like my UM rig 😁

This was made by a gentleman in N.C. Heavy duty can use for anchor in a pinch. ;) Lot's of great info guys .

I could see using that bulky heavy rig and XXH gear if you were on a harvesting expedition to fill the cooler. But that seems kinds silly for catch and release fishing for 2 lb stripers!
Even though I was the one in the video fishing with it, I have to agree with you a 100%, because those fish fight so hard catching them on a medium light or medium fast action would be an absolute blast. Now the next day I threw smaller crankbaits and wow what a fun that was. Thanks for watching even a few minutes. I appreciate it bud.

I enjoyed your video I'm being lazy here I haven't looked into it but what is the difference in Alabama rig and a umbrella rig? Is it just the name or size? I've trolled with umbrella rigs but after watching this video maybe my speed was to fast?

Another thing and I'm no way being nit picking here I fish different waters in different states have different laws. Some a 2 hook limit UT. WY. I stumbled across at Flaming Gorge. ID. has a 3 hook limit. MT. depends on what part of state your in.

I don't know if anyone at LP or anywhere else would enforce it but you never know?

Thanks for your glide bait recommends I'm still looking poor man has poor ways.
Thank you for enjoying the video. I worked hard on making it so it is appreciated.

Here is what the Utah brochure says about 3 hooks and 3 lures:
No artificial lure may have more than three hooks. No line may have attached to it more than three baited hooks, three artificial flies or three artificial lures. (This rule also applies to those who are fishing for crayfish.

Again, I didn't mean to come across as a snarky hater! This website is one of the few that doesn't devolve into name calling and back and forth ranting between internet heroes (not counting Bob)...

When conditions are right, you can slay them on fly gear, which is an absolute hoot!

Cheers, and keep the videos coming.

Can't wait to try it on the fly rod. :)

I’ve got some of those from Howard’s box
And Howard had a lot of box's :)
I just went through a ton of his stuff Steve, and it was like an early Christmas. But Howard was like me, he was never going to use but a small fraction of it, but we have it just in case. I threw the A rig my last trip, and they caught fish, but I never could get 2 or 3 to bite it like an Umbrella rig. So it was much easier to throw a single assassin then the weight of the A rig.
