Got to spend a week at the lake (April 12-17). I left Grand Junction early and got a flat tire on the trailer before I got to Green River, I put on the spare and made it to Patriot Tire and Repair, those guys were great and had me back on the road in no time at all. I wanted to focus on getting better with my electronics and catching more of the fish at Powell has to offer (normally I just post up on Stripers and rip lips, they taste so good). It was a challenge with the wind, did I mention there was some wind? I found largemouth and stripers in Bullfrog at the end of the tires and that made for a good first day. The next day I went to the back of Last Canyon and found some crappie (they were pre-spawn fish suspended in front of timber, The water was about 62 back there.
Day three and Dave joined me, it was kind of windy in Iceberg every time I would set up on the timber for crappie the wind would change direction by 180 and challenge me. we exited the canyon to the far shore and marked a massive school of fish, they turned out to be bluegills, I'm not much of a bluegill fisherman but man they were big and hungry so Dave and I caught a bunch of those guys, they were also pre-spawn. My last day on the lake I wanted to find some walleye and Stripers, in the morning I found Smallmouth and Largemouth in front of Halls. Dave left for home around noon and I headed up the lake to Moki to try and get out of the wind. I found more panfish but not what I was looking for. I decided to brave the wind, did I mention the wind yet?, and fish the gravel across from Moki. I marked some suspended fish on the break line from 30'-50" and decided to put the trolling motor to the test, it did great holding the boat right above the fish while the wind tried its best to break my motivation. The fish I marked turned out to be a nice school of striper (they were small but in really good shape) with the walleyes hugging the bottom under the stripers. I ended up with three nice walleye and a couple of bonus stripers, then the wind broke my spirt and I called it a day and a trip. I headed back to camp where it was windy as the storm blew in from the North, which brought snow to Junction to welcome me home.
I met a real nice couple at the camp ground K&M who are members of wayneswords also. You can tell both of them love the Lake and fishing! Nice to meet you guys!
I work today but can't stop thinking about my next trip to the lake!
