For the past two weeks the morning surface water temperature has hovered right round 77 degrees. It normally does not change much since the warm layer on top is quite thick.
The big wind storm that just blew through took the warm water off the surface and mixed it with deeper cooler layers. Water temperature this morning dropped 3 degrees down to 74. That is a big change when the lake is capped. Now expect to see temperature change more each morning depending on the nightly air temp and amount of wind.
The best fishing temperature in the spring is the mid 60s. We are headed in that direction now while at the same time bass and stripers are very fat and sassy. Expect great fishing from now until mid October or beyond.
