Where to Stay

Let me start off by saying it's been years since I've been to Lake Powell to fish. I've always loved it but haven't been able to find anyone to go with since moving to Arizona. My wife has always refused since all I have ever had was a 14' aluminum with a 10 hp motor. Perfectly acceptable for me but not so much for the wife. This year however we purchased a tracker 175 so I'm back in the game. I was planning on driving up and staying at the resort at Wahweap but my wife read they've had problems with people messing with boat there. I also noticed there doesn't seem to be any trailer parking in their parking lot. So, my wife booked us an Airbnb in Page. My question is how big of a hassle is it going to be driving up every day from Page to launch? It looks like Antelope Point Ramp is not serviceable right now because of water levels. Previously when we'd come down, I was in Utah and always went to Bullfrog so I also don't have any experience fishing this part of the lake, so any suggestions for where to concentrate my fishing would also be welcomed.

We do this about once a year now on the south end, my in laws will drive up from Gilbert and we get an air b&b in page. We will drive down to Stateline ramp everyday. It’s a little hassle and along with putting through both marinas and readjusting your spine on the way up and back everyday through the straight it can be a little annoying (if you’re in deed going up to padre or farther). But, it’s doable and beats not going to Powell.

I’d much prefer to just boat camp and get some more fishing time but again, it’s doable and not too bad. It’s not like there is traffic jams and a long commute from Page to the ramp. To me driving up the straight in a boat is much worse than having to drive to and from Page. This can be managed by getting up and out super early and avoiding wakes though. Or, you can just fish around Wahweap.

If I’m fishing the south end I like to get up to at least Padre, but that’s just to get more solitude. You can catch just as many fish right around Wahweap.

If you’re planning multiple days on the water, you might want to consider getting a slip at Antelope Point. After launch on day 1, have your partner drive over from Stateline and park at Antelope. Take the free shuttle down to the marina and meet up there.

It’s a bit more hassle and cost but…this would save you having to go slow through 2 separate Wakeless zones and a very rough ride between the Dam and Antelope twice a day. The drive from Page to Wahweap Stateline vs Antelope Point is about the same time-wise.

But here’s the kicker…bring your checkbook…$75/night. If that doesn’t scare you off, here’s the link. Online reservations only.

Oh, and welcome to Wayne’s Words. Have a great trip and be sure to post a fish report.

That’s a great idea, haven’t ever thought of getting a slip.
