Recall the early years of camping on the shore. Finding a rock ledge to make the "kitchen" then trying to level it, keeping the coolers covered with blankets, trying to build a shade out of some tent poles and a blue tarp - then watching the wind take the whole thing into the sky while everyone roared with laughter, charcoal-grilled sandburgers, fireworks (we were rebels back then), frying fish in the rain....it was hell...and a hell of a good time. :)

How about sleeping under the stars in the bed of a Ford F-150 parked on Lone Rock Beach? Also slept in Hotel in Page and spend days on the lake. A lot of driving back and forth to the Marina, but you get good sleep. Also done the tent thing many times. Can be a blast, until the wind comes (there were hurricane force winds on one of our tent trips, they were all destroyed  ). Houseboating is probably the best way overall, as long it's someone else's houseboat. Just bought a 28 ft cabin cruiser so that will be our MO going forward....
