With flyfishing, the weight of the rod is more about matching the rod and line weight with the weight of the fly that is being cast. Unless you are fishing for tuna or some super strong ocean fish, the rod will be just fine for landing fish. Casting heavy or air resistant flies require a heavier line weight to carry the fly (in flyfishing you are casting the line, the fly is just along for the ride). I have caught a pile of stripers on 5 and 6 weight rods with small Clouser minnows, it is a hoot. If you are trying to cast a big popper, you are going to need a heavier line weight rod...
