Utah Fish and Game ticket last week, they are watching

In the past Utah had a free group application for Scout and church youth groups to fish. You just needed an adult with a license and fill out a form. I'm not sure if that is still available or what the restrictions are.

It's still available for 501c3 organization's participants who are 14 and under.

Is it just me or does anyone else read this and say: Oh great, that's it's available........butt......hmmmmmm.....another gov't hoop to jump through, thought up by another gov't bureaucrat, and you get to pay his/her salary/benefits/pension.....

Why is there even a such thing as 501c3? Why is there income tax at all instead of an equal 'consumption' tax...... :unsure:

sorry, my financial planners over the years ALL have said; 1) the most $$ you will ever spend is in income tax 2) The most time you will spend in your life is trying to avoid it....and avoiding jail time for avoiding it....:cool:

We spent a few days in Face Canyon at a few honey holes and our last day we were approached by officers checking fishing licenses. I was surprised to see them that far up lake in their small boat but just an FYI. They were cordial but not very forgiving for anyone over 18 years old and one of our guys was ticketed. Most our guys had licenses but they were either on a phone or wallet back at the houseboat. Just a reminder to carry them with you at Powell whether it's a pic on the phone or paper. 12 and up in Utah require a fishing license.

How was the fishing at MM25? That looks to be where the pic was taken.

I know I’m late to the party but better late than never! We are a Utah license agent and yes paper licenses are available if you buy it from an license agent in person. If you buy on line they are all electronic. As long as you download the licenses you have purchased they will be on your phone but if you forget to download it and do not have service it won’t show on your phone. The DWR can check if you have one but they do not have to do that. There are so many ways to prove you have it, but it is common to leave things on a house boat like wallets and maybe even phones that lake powell is in my opinion the most likely place not to have it with you and one of the few you don’t have service. I’m glad to hear they weren’t hard on the youth this time and treated your guy fairly once caught. I left mine at camp once in the 70’s and they took my gear and gave me 15 minutes to return with my license, they cut it short but we caught them. They were surprised and admitted that most of the time people never came back, they figured their gear was the price of a ticket. Kind of —-ssed me off that they almost got my gear too. Lesson learned.

It seems if you use the app to purchase the license that it automatically downloads.

unless I’m fishing on the docks I’d wager the probabllity of actually being checked outside the marinas is about as likely as me winning the lottery. And I don’t buy tickets except once every 20 years or so. 😉

50+ years on LP and have been checked once. I take a screen shot of my license and print it for a hard copy on the Lund just incase my phone ends up sleeping with the fishes.

The game and fish people or wardens are doing their jobs. If you want to bitch single out the incompetence of the NPS! There have been only two times in the 40 plus years I have been using Lake Powell that they have stepped up and did anything to help. Money spent on licenses is well spent for the service the fish and game provide.
 
50 years myself and I think twice maybe three times I’ve been checked over those years. I have worked with the DWR in several capacities and they are people, some very good ones and a few with attitude but just people doing their jobs. Many of them I would love to go fishing with and we would have a great time. I kind of think it depends on what kind of boat you have whether you get checked as often? Surf boat not so often.

We were approached , on the lake one time in 30+ yrs,it was truely strange,let me share. It was 2020,right in the middle of covid between mountainsheep & dangling rope (wich was not in operation ),trolling along singen a song,only people on the lake (mid Lake) and this little 18' boat with 3 big old Utah DNR?game warden boys onboard aproaches us. It was a precarious situation as an 18' boat with a little outboard is not very stable with at least 600 lbs of humans on it. No problems on our side as we are very stable and 100% compliant, (we are allways "stickered up" ) I think they were a little surprised everything was in order but they thanked us and we parted ways. Again a very odd encounter,I hope they have a bigger boat now,that is a long trip in any direction from mm 43 in that boat! Truth is stranger than fiction.

Sorry, if you have a current license, it’s not a big ask to have it with you. If you get cited, considering federal budget cuts and Ranger workload, you do the appropriate follow-up. As you say, it’s not the end of the world.
