True GRIT returning to action

The graffiti that sprouts up on Lake Powell’s cliff walls is a rampant problem, and keeping it removed is an ongoing battle; like a gardener fighting weeds in a vegetable patch.
Rangers, archaeologists and volunteers with the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area have been aggressively fighting Lake Powell graffiti since 2004 with the launch of the GRIT (Graffiti Removal and Intervention Team) program, and the True GRIT houseboat.
The True GRIT is a 55-foot houseboat of the Skipperliner class. The houseboat serves as the movable operations base for the graffiti removal teams. The houseboat was donated to the park service by Bob and Vicki Schwartz and Bill and Carol Williams back in 2003, and took its maiden voyage as the newly re-christened True GRIT in 2004. The boat was named by Bill Williams, a self-proclaimed die-hard John Wayne fan.
The GRIT program simply wouldn’t be possible without the houseboat.
