Trolling motor batteries

So got my lithium 36 volt 100 amp battery for my trolling motor. Sold with USA label but manufactured in China. First issue is the battery is putting out 40 volts. Will followup with Minn Kota to see if this is ok.

Perfectly normal, 36 volts is "nominal voltage". Just like "120 volts AC" can be 110, 115, 120. "240 volts AC" can be 208, 220, 230 , 240. The more the better on a battery, voltage drop is high on a 12 / 24 / 36 DC volt system. My Garmin units are rated at 12-36 volts, an extra volt or two won't hurt your TM or your electronics, measure them at the device, not your battery terminals. A good quality, properly charged 12 volt wet cell battery should measure ~13.8 volts. Some of the lithiums will go up to 14.4 volts.

36 volt Lithium battery LiFePO4 putting out 40 volts resting. Minn Kota says battery will not drop with load. Minn Kota says battery ok for electronics on trolling motor but need to be careful not running motor on full (10) for too long, motor may overheat. I don't get it. Minn Kota's web site says their trolling motors are compatible with 36 volt lithium battery LiFePO4. How ever no 36 volt Lithium battery puts out 36 volts. The battery puts out between 40 to 41.4 volts. Kind of like a 12 volt battery putting out 12.8 volts.

Well I am moving forward with the 36 Volt Lithium battery. I will let you know how compatible the battery is with the trolling motor.
