@Tiff Mapel And any others who could chime in.

This may sound silly/obvious, but is there any type of agreement or some salvaging paperwork etc. you need to go out and pick up "trash?" Or is it simply just getting out there and finding, transporting, and then discarding what you guys find? I could think of worse ways to spend a winter weekend hiking around picking up trash on the north end.

It's not that bad. You just have to submit Form 451-T at least six weeks in advance, to start the mandatory 30-day Environmental Impact Assessment period. Once NPS conducts their Phase I site survey, they will issue a Non-Hazardous Debris Relocation Permit. At that point, you can complete a the 4-hour ergonomics safety seminar, and pay the $45 fee. You are then authorized to pick up litter on the permitted date.

Or, just feel free to pick up the trash. I would choose the latter. 🙃

Hey Preston,

I just pick a date on the calendar when I can go, launch my Boston Whaler, take a few friends, and we get out and pick up trash. That's how we've done the FOUR "Rogue" trips we've had to do, when the Trash Tracker season was suspended for whatever reason... Like this year. (And in 2020, 2021, and 2023...)

We use the big 55-gallon contractors' trash bags, fill 'em up, and dump them (and the large items that don't fit in trash bags) at Stateline Marina. The porters there were AWESOME, and took our trash up to the dumpsters in the parking lot that were really far up the hill.

AND, since I am now blissfully retired from teaching, I have all the time in the world. Sooooo I'm planning another Trash Tracker trip the week of October 22-28. We usually just stick to Wahweap Bay, since it's such a productive area for trash. Anyone is welcome to join me, the more boats, the better!! Looking at you, Rick DeepVee!!! (He has an awesome pontoon boat that's great for picking up trash) Who's with me???

So let's start organizing the first Wayneswords WORDLINGS trash clean up! The week of October 22 - 28!! Let's DO THIS!!

I get it, I realize it’s a dumb question, and obviously we pick up trash when we see it….

But we’ve also ran across full on wave runners or canopies etc that I could somehow see it being frowned upon to move or just toss at the marina. Idk, there are all sorts of weird stipulations like that these days (“cant transport mussels..” or some crap).

Or, maybe they swear in Tiff as an honorary ranger for the day or something cool. Ha

I'm sitting on my home deck on 1 of 2 nice chairs I dug out in Last Chance. Do I need to take them back?

How do I report a suspected Mob Hit on my recliner? Transported from mid MI over state lines. Last seen heading west on flatbed semi with Valentines Day balloons. The frosty keg with CO2 cannister and hoses still attached. cement shoes were not included... HALP!

Ok, just joking, but so glad to see people cleaning up any trash. It seems that while a lot of it is unintentional things that get taken by the wind or storms there's still a lot of things that just need to be removed no matter how or why they got there.
