I think the attitude on this forum is what makes it great. I've been on hunting and fishing forums for about 20 years and the people here are friendlier than any other forum. I think that is mostly thanks to the example that Wayne sets. I agree that patterns are the most useful information to share but I've put out GPS or exact locations of striper schools numerous times. I've even had people show up the day after I've posted a striper spot and fish next to me. Most of them were welcome company. I've also benefited from others sharing striper spots on numerous occasions.

The fisherman on the lake are also nicer to fish around. A new boil fisherman that is learning to chase boils can be annoying when they run their big motor over the boils and putting them down. You can educated the new guys in a nice way out on the water and here on the forum and 99% of them will respond appropriately. The new guys are just trying to figure out how to catch fish like the rest of us. Some of them can be excessive in their demands but that is nothing new. Guys that have been asking for specific hunting or fishing for centuries. Now if you want to know some of my mule deer hunting spots, telling you what state may be as specific as I would get.
 
I think that there a lot of great comments and opinions on this post. I know I have personally benefited from people on this page coupled with going out on the lake and “hunting” the fish/pattern. I know I have also helped people too which is just paying it forward. With COVID not going away anytime soon there are a ton of people out recreating and it’s becoming harder and harder to have that honey hole secured! People come and go and good things always come to an end so get boots on the ground and find that next hot spot! Birds of the same feather flock together! Tight lines all!

Giving up a fishing spot doesn't bother me.......but if someone asks me to give up a camping spot......Fuggedaboutit :cool:

This site has changed dramatically over the years, as @broski pointed out, some of the old timers were pretty feisty. Petester was probably the grouchiest of them all at times, but he had a heart of GOLD, and many of us came to love him like no other. My profile picture will forever remain "Wild Hare Baits" in Petester's honor.
Wayne has always been the constant here. Sharing his very VAST fishing knowledge, and taking great joy in that.

OMG Your bringing up Petester sure brings back happy thought for me ... Him and Patty were two awesome people. And man he had GREAT stories. Still have a un-sealed wild hare baits thanks for making my day with a fond memory .

When I first found WWs, it was still a phone number you called to hear Wayne's fish report. Eventually it evolved to what it is today.

When I first found this actual website many moons ago now, I asked the same questions....EXACTLY which rock, with what color line, at what depth, and how much dynamite do I use? Will you take me to your secret spot?

I got so annoying that Petester, yes, THE Petester, reached out to me and asked me for my private contact info. Being sure that a seasoned LP guru such as Petester, as well a fantastic fisherman and very well respected member of the WWs community was wanting to chat with me privately about fishing spots,techniques, etc., I happily provided my information.

45 Minutes later, I got a 5 page e-mail ripping my butt up one side and down the other about fishing, man code, etiquette, laziness.... you name it.

An hour after that e-mail came the phone call... "Brian, this is Petester. Did you get my e-mail?" With a huge lump in my throat, I answered yes, knowing full well the verbal *** ripping was about to commence...and it did. That was the beginning of a very special friendship though!

I look back at that interaction with very fond memories, as Pete turned out to be one of the best friends and mentors I EVER had. It got even better as the years went on, and my son, "Ballast Boy" got older. Pete took a real liking to Conner, and really took him under his wing. We did shad rally's, wounded warrior rallies, and personal private trips with Pete. I've met MANY wonderful people along the way, up to and including the honor of not only meeting and knowing Wayne, but actually fishing with him, on his boat, at his spots (the whole lake is Wayne's "spot", BTW...) several times. It's been wonderful, and I am so glad I am in a place in my life to find my time to be here again.

The ultimate moral of the story is this: I agree and disagree with the OP, and many of the views here. I had a genuine desire and interest to learn how to fish Lake Powell specifically, far better than I ever had. I asked some dumb, ignorant, at times even rude, questions. The crew here was different then, and they'd REALLY let you have it, BUT... there's always that one kid (Me), and that one salty old dog (Petester) that click and make a connection, and a true bond for life.

I would urge all of us now old seasoned, excellent fishermen and women (and only those two genders) to take into account that some of the new peeps here are just like I was...anxious and excited to learn how to really catch fish at Powell, but perhaps to new to the site to know the "code," and what is and isn't ok to ask... you may well make a new friend, and a bond you never though possible.

As a younger wordling, I have been a quiet observer for the past 7-8 years and have enjoyed the wisdom, stories, and advice shared here. What a wealth of knowledge, thank you! My generation definitely has figured out how to get information quickly, and that attitude probably seeps over to the fishing questions. Although I have never asked about a specific spot, I would add that as a young dad, trying to help my kids just catch one, sharing tips makes both of our day! So thanks for continuing to be selectively generous:)

Me too, Travis! If you zoom in on my profile pic, the hat I'm wearing is Wild Hare Baits, and the fish I'm holding was caught with one! They really did work!!! Still have a gaggle of 'em, and throw one whenever I am down there, while looking up and saying "Hi!" to Pete and Patty, who are undoubtedly fishing in the sky every day!!!
 
That reminds me..... I have some BBQ assembly pics here somewhere.... hmmm

Since most “favorite fishing spots” will be gone this year due to the low water it is the perfect opportunity to scout and create a log for the coming years. My suggestion would be to look at the lake as if you were looking at it with more water in increments of 10’. Take pics and notes of where the perfect structure will be for each level as you move around and at the various water levels. MMHO is that fish gravitate to, and fill in the structure. If you know where good structure will be at a certain water level you will not have to take the time using sonar to find it when the water gets higher. This coupled with time on the water and lines-in will be money in the coming years. For people that give to the board and the lake, and new folks that will in the future, I am happy to help them. Some of us have more time than others and the spots change all the time with the exception of what I would refer to as the usual areas. BTW...To quote an old fishing guide in Florida, “be a hero, take a kid fishing”. If you are trying to catch fish with your kids you are a hero in my book and I’ll help you if I can.

I was cruising around certain parts of the lake drooling at some of the structure that had been exposed. I've already started a video archive so I know what it looks like once the Lake goes back up.
 
I'll tell me what bugs me as much as the people who ask for too much information, is the people who lurk on this site, read every post, and never share a thing! For as many people who fish Lake Powell and use this site, there really are very few fish reports.
