I got on here in 2000 for fishing, and will all ways think of WW's as a fishing forum, and a forum to help others that may not know the lake and fishing at first trip, but we all had to start there. It is still a great place to share fishing info, and not every one is going to like you, and by nature, your not going to like each and everyone either.But I have made a ton of friends since 2000 on WW's. And think we can all contribute more good then bad, and have more good then bad to say.
Its funny how giving a pack of Walleye assassins can make a friendship to last for the rest of a guys life, but that is why I throw that pack in some ones boat every year, or a pack of Crappie grubs, that people seam to never forget. I have had more then a few of those guys send me a picture of a places to try and launch a boat and to me that is what this forum is about.
I have been contributing for a long time, and hope to help another friend for life soon, not saying I am going to give you GPS coordinates of a spot, but will throw you a bait or two 😜

I appreciate Bart's moderation. I have seen a lot of forums eventually break down with hurt feelings and pride. It takes a good moderator to allow the conversation to progress and include some discussion but to contain the fire when it gets too hot.

I have really appreciated this site for the many things I am able to learn about the lake, boating, etc. First off, the lake is one of the great loves of my life. I don't think I have ever had a trip down that I didn't find the miracles of life. There has only been one trip that made me think I needed to stay away for a little while (the ring-tailed cat invasion trip) and fortunately, our houseboat went down for the following year, so I had my wish.

I think we all can appreciate changes in everything over the years, including the lake, this site, our own lives, etc. As long as we look for the good in all these changes, we will not be upset or frustrated. I know there have been frustrations with certain individuals, but I have even seen the most frustrating post some neat things. I think the hard part about these online forums is that sometimes we forget that there are people at the other end of the keyboard. Maybe it is time to have one of the world-renowned Shad Rallies in order to reintroduce people to one another. I haven't met a soul on here in real life that I could be certain of. I have probably seen some of you on the lake, but was none the wiser. I think it would be a great way to temper the waters. Meanwhile, let's take Bart's advice to heart.

This lake /reservoir is mine, as well as the publics, and I will die protecting it.

Bart's comments are dead nuts on.

However, if anyone thinks CNN does not promote a progressive agenda and gives fuel to the Drainers you are kidding yourself. This is radical environmentalism and progressive politics on full display. I will not pollute this board with more political carping and will adhere to Bart's advice but keep your powder dry. There is a fight coming

We re-balanced the titles a while back and added Escalante-Class.

Re-balanced User Titles

Hi all - Now that we've been on this (newer) version of Wayne's Words for roughly 5 years, reached 5700+ members, and are approaching 60k messages, it's time to adjust the User Titles a bit. Here's the new progression - New Member (under 5 messages) Member (under 25 messages) Active Member...

My thanks to BartsPlace for thoughtful monitoring of WW and Bubba for a well-reasoned post. I love Lake Powell and WW for all the ups and downs of both places. I take it all with a grain of salt. There is so much useful information on WW I cannot imagine the lake without it. We leave from Wahweap tomorrow for a week out on my happy place. HB=Red Sky At Night.... Fish boat=Capts Rx. You can't miss us.

The relative lack of posts about fishing and recreation at this time of year is totally logical, given that: a) there is only one ramp currently open, and that one is at the far south end of the lake; b) the period from January to April is generally chilly, not that pleasant for camping, and has unpredictable weather, so is not the favorite time for folks to visit; and c) as noted by Wayne, the water is cold this time of year, and until it warms up the fishing is generally lousy. As a result, not many people are on the lake fishing or posting reports about it, and the forum on the site devoted to fishing is rather quiet for the moment.

Instead, during the winter people tend to discuss other things like: a) how much water will actually be in the lake to fish in this summer, thus the pre-occupation with snowpack, runoff, and water allocation policy; and b) will folks be able to get their boats on whatever water is there, thus the discussions about ramps and future infrastructure. All of this is completely related to the broader discussion regarding fishing at Lake Powell, which cannot be divorced from the stresses affecting the greater Southwest, such as drought and increasing population, because the lake and its fishing respond to those.

So there is nothing really wrong with discussing all these things peripheral to fishing on the separate forum for Lake Powell Issues, and to the extent that they provide some indication of what is coming down the line over the coming months and years, it allows people who want to come and fish a way to more effectively plan their future visits. It is not cheap to go fishing at Lake Powell, and the last thing folks want is to show up and find no water at their favorite spot, or no way to get to it.
