I don’t fish straight braid. I fish short floro leaders in both fresh and saltwater / offshore applications. I don't want the weight or the Swivel breaking guides etc.
The double uni works fantastic for small diameter lines. I like the FG for offshore.
Learn how to tie it. Get good at it, develop confidence in your knots and you are all set.

The double uni works great and is easy to tie. But the FG is getting easier; I try to tie this one at home where I can watch the video while I'm doing it :-). I sure don't do it in the boat!
 
Yeah there are some major disadvantages to using a swivel, like the fact that you actually have to Tie two knots instead of one... and I think even if the swivel is large enough it won’t pass through the top guide, reeling the swivel into or through your guides will damage them, slowly but surely.

Some lures / baits cause a ton of line twist though and I hate it. Swivel eliminates all twist. For me, the swivel method is great if you are very diligent about paying attention to where the swivel is when reeling in to recast. I’d still bet that the perceived advantage of having a clear leader as opposed to tying directly with braid is negligible. The biggest reason to use a fluoro or mono leader in my opinion is to give a section that is shock absorbent and will stretch some if your drag is set too tight and you hook into a very large fish.
 
I use a swivel but it is at least a 75 lb bearing swivel. I also use 17 fluorocarbon as 6 ft leader. I started doing that years ago when I targeting big pike in the spring and fall. I just simply can’t tie a double uni, when it is twenty degrees out and the wind is blowing. I have yet to loose a big fish because of the Swivel. My largest is a 320 lb Tuna off the coast of Mexico. Kinda like 9mm and 45 cal, both work just fine it all boils down to personal preferance.

are you kidding? My wife calls it the "F" word. LOL.
My saltwater is worse than my bass habit. multiple long range trips out of SD on the Polaris Supreme, local offshore for Bluefin and yellows. But my bass habit has gotten pretty bad with some excellent bassing in Southern CA. We fish and we love tackle. Lots of it!! I suffer from the disease of more!
 
heh heh. we've got the gulf coast and some big boy lakes here in TX as well. i have read some incredible tales of socal lakes! i got to fish the delta near sf a few summers ago. what an environment!
but my all time favorite is, of course, powell. maybe falcon on the tx-mex border 2nd.
 
always wanted to fish Falcon. And yea you have some serious fishing in Texas.
There is nothing like lake Powell. Variety, biting fish, scenery. The whole set up is exceptional. I've been in surface striper bites on 4-10lb fish that were mind blowing. Our trip 2 weeks ago was the first time I camped up in the San Juan. We usually camp at the the motel 6 in page and slip at Antelope Point. You will find me up lake in that area from now on. We greased them.
 
motel 6 is where i usually stay. very noisy...
4-10lb on top? dang... my biggest on top is 4.64, and i caught her in the same spot 2 mornings in a row. lake bastrop near austin.
daughter lives in oregon, so i gotta drive instead of fly. lottsa fishing/golf gear...
there is absolutely nothing like topwater action. nothing.

The thing that makes me nervous about Air BnB's right now is whether the owners had the cash flow to survive the unexpected vacancies from this spring and potentially a leaner than normal summer. Lots of reports of folks having to sell off investment properties, or defaulting on loans.
