…great list, thanks…missed some of these, definitely now on the watchlist.

Adding to the list, as previously mentioned above, “Evolution (2001)”

We happened to be staying at the Wahweap Resort during the filming of John Carter From Mars. My wife had won a stay at the resort for winning the water level contest. The parking lots were filled with signs that said "Barzoom", but don't remember seeing any of the cast during our time at the resort.

We were speaking with the staff at Big Water Boat Storage about being there during the filming of the movie, and they had a great laugh about the location scouts, and how nobody warned them about the bugs that were about to fill the air at the same time the location shooting was scheduled to occur!

I love "B" movies that know that they are "B" movies, so we always watch Evolution while we are on our houseboat every year. Does anyone know the actual location of the Army encampment set that overlooks the lake? I always think I should be able to figure it out based on the telephone poles in some of the shots. Was it between Coppermine Rd. and the entrance to Antelope Point Marina? There aren't a whole lot of places where you can see telephone poles AND the lake in the same shot.

Talk of filming planet of the apes, Reminded of a story from some older friends of mine . Sadly all but one of the four has passed. Two couples were at wahweap end of lake during the time planet of the apes was filmed there. They were eating at a local
Dining establishment when Charlton Heston walked in , Bonnie was the only who was facing the entrance when she spotted Charlton walking in and she said hello Mr. Heston. Before he could reply the others started laughing and mimicking her hello Mr Heston hello Mr Heston Then he paused for a second and in his unmistakable voice he replied hello, Good evening mam. The others turned to the “voice” and all went red faced and embarrassed as they saw him standing there greeting Bonnie, then he walked back to his table.
Pretty funny, Bonnie held that story over them for many years.
From all the accounts I've seen, heard and read......Charlton Heston was a 'stand up', nice guy. So rare for stars.

Seems he was able to balance stardom & down home 'good 'ol boy'

Wouldn't that be helpful in 2023?...to kinda bring folks together, instead of division?

Well, here's at least a partial list, but I can't vouch for the quality of some of these--I'm sure people can think of lots of others. The Greatest Story Ever Told is a particularly interesting case, because it was filmed in late 1962/early 1963 right before the lake started filling. Lots of great panorama shots near Gunsight, Crossing of the Fathers, and the mouth of Padre Canyon...

The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965)
Planet of the Apes (1968)
Love Is a Funny Thing (1969)
Static (1985)
Chronos (1985)
Point Break (1991)
Maverick (1994)
Broken Arrow (1996)
Winged Migration (2001)
Planet of the Apes (remake) (2001)
Bonneville (2006)
John Carter (2012)
Miracle Valley (2021)
jfr is there a powell topic that you are not an expert on your insight is appreciated keep it up

For any Star Wars geeks (like me) who have Disney+ (like me), the first 10 minutes of episode 1 of season 3 of the Mandalorian was filmed at Lake Powell. I would post some stills, but probably would be rounded up by Disney/Lucasfilm agents and fed to the monster that emerged from the lake in that scene. (That was no striper.) Pretty cool scene, trying to figure out where it was filmed... no obvious landmarks, but pretty open water, suggesting somewhere along the edges of Padre Bay or Last Chance... someone here will figure it out I know...
From what I saw it seems to be gunsight, or at least in between gunsight and cookie jar out in padre bay. So cool to see. We stayed in cookie jar each year approx 3 times a summer for 15 years till the water dropped. Pretty familiar with the rock faces and structures in that area.

Watched 'Evolution' from 2000...... filmed in Page (10/2000-1/2001) with our lake in the background........level 3673 ish?

Lake level was great with a nifty shot of Castle rock cut nicely filled....and navigate-able.....

The scary part was........ one of those monsters had red hair. o_O

A very scary movie.........did you catch that, Bill?

The monster with red hair definitely caught my attention. I was married to one...just not that one (I don't think)

Just saw this post on Facebook about the Mandalorian and Lake Powell… it may be mostly CGI, but they must have shot at least some footage at Powell, apparently in Last Chance…

This week's episode was almost entirely in the Lake Powell land. There were shots all over the place and it definitely looked like the opening to Last Chance in a couple sequences. The scenery looked less created than the early episodes and they also clearly forgot to scrub out the bath tub ring from a bunch of shots. I guess when you are in a hurry to deliver a product you sometimes make concessions. It was all really fun, though I am really glad that LP doesn't have either the mega crocodiles or the flying dragon things that will pluck up a kid off the beach, except down the San Juan, of course.

Yes, I'm sure they doctored the views to clean up the mussels, plus erased any bathtub ring. But the geology sure looks like the Morrison formation over Entrada sandstone, which is consistent with what you'd see in Last Chance and even Padre.
In the last episode, the one thing that I really noticed was the bathtub ring...I was certain it was real footage of Powell. My boys also recognized the lake.
