I think if you are way out on the lake you have a right to a bigger expectation of privacy than if you are 2 miles away from one of the marinas.
💯

This was in Hansen Creek. Pretty close to the marinas. And only one other houseboat relatively nearby.

If I was guessing I’d say they put it there so people wouldn’t run back and forth to camp, right past their houseboat, making waves. And the canyon is right where their houseboat is so legally anyone would need to be at wakeless. But we all know how often that happens.

Much as we disliked the idea, we were forced to save our beach for 24 hours this week due to a plugged rental HB black water tank and inoperative Escalante floating restroom pumpout (Thank you NPS, ugh). Had to run up to Halls, pump out and spend the night at the docks. We left a boat and PWC at our beach as well as some spare anchor lines and empty gas cans. All good, everything intact upon return.

Another item for the rental boat checklist: swing by the pump-out at departure to ensure all tanks are fully flushed. There’s absolutely no way 8 experienced houseboat people filled a 300 gal holding tank in 3 days.

This right here is why we almost never camp below Rock Creek. We often have our dogs, so try to select camps that keep any friction and neighbors to minimum. We have one who’s turned up in other people’s houseboats during breakfast. Friendly and harmless, but shameless.
Knew a guy that had two Dobermans. they liked to bark at approaching houseboats, said he never had a problem with other boats getting to close.

For future reference, it LOOKED like the pump at Rincon was functional. Didn’t try it though.

GHB looked non functional.

I've been wondering if we need to start a pseudo-realtime thread that lists (last known) status of certain facilities on the lake. I just haven't come up with a way to organize it. And I'm not sure I want to be the owner/editor of it.

One issue that comes to mind - and is mindblowing to me - is the lack of ATON maintenance. Between Bullfrog and GHB I saw several that were literally on beaches or rock shoals. Following them at night could be deadly under any sort of speed.

There's one (99?) on the edge of Moki Island and another (110?) between Knowles and Cedar on a sandy beach. I saw others that were questionable, but don't remember them now.

I would think that safety should be job one for NPS (including sanitary safety).

Simple fix. Give the Lake Powell full pool boundary back to Utah and AZ.

That’s not a bad idea. Maybe ponder it and brainstorm ideas over the winter. Next spring May be a whole new lake…and I don’t mean in a good way
