That video is amazing! A few highlights for me: the 7 waterskiers behind the boat, visit to CITD, swimming in the pools on top of the sandstone, the very different look of everything.

Just goes to show that there is still a lot to see and do as the lake drops. Things are just different. There are a lot of things you can't/shouldn't do in that video too, but back then, they had a free hand. Definitely don't climb on top of Rainbow Bridge!

Also, how amazing is it that they have all that 8mm footage. That 30 minute video represents a lot of money that was spent in film and developing! Definitely worth it though to preserve such an amazing time.
 
That is an awesome video! Priceless. Great shots at Hole in the Rock, plus up and down the lake, including Cathedral in the Desert! If I had to guess the lake level, the best clue is at 13:45 with the shot of the dam. When you compare this with recent photos of the same view, it looks to be about 30 feet lower than now... so I put this at just over 3490... And that means this is not 1963, but late summer 1964, when the lake finally reached that level for the first time. I also think it's the summer of 1964 because those kids in the one scene are playing electric guitars (looks like some nice Fenders in there), which was generally not a common phenomenon until after the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan in Feb 1964. And probably unheard of in rural Utah until then. :)

The crewcuts also scream summer 1964 and not 1965, by which time you'd start seeing a little more shagginess on top of a lot of kids' heads......

I am a long time member and follower. Haven't had much to post. Its hard for me to get down there. But my mom and dad moved to Bullfrog in 1968. My dad passed away a couple years ago and I have inherited the fun job of organizing his vast slide collection. The pictures are a little edgy. I'm still figuring out how to get digital. But I thought you folks might enjoy some pictures from when the lake was always rising. Peace!

Evening after work. These fish were caught a few hundred yards south of Bullfrog launch ramp from a tin can (aluminum rental boat) shortly after the marina was moved from that location.

Here’s a screen capture from the video of the dam. It’s lower than Tiff’s photo, but if it were summer 1963 it would be 150 feet lower or so, and it’s clearly not that--hence the hypothesis that it is 1964, when it reached 3491 in August. In Tiff’s photo, it’s almost 200 feet from the water surface to the top of the dam, so you get a sense of scale…

I saw this posted this morning just before I had to leave for work. I can't wait to watch this this evening. I had a houseboat buoyed at halls crossing for a good while and took a lot of trips with the young mens group from church. The church would not sponsor or sign off on the trip as an activity because to much risk but I just took all the kids in the neighborhood any way. Had super fun times! Thank you for this post!
