Summer Boating Season

Well, it’s almost over. It goes by fast every year and I never get in all I’d like to no matter how well I plan or try year over year.

Next week is our last up lake trip with our kids this year as school starts on the tenth of August here in Flagstaff, Az. Once they are back into their studies and activities it’s hard to put together enough days to justify going uplake. I personally prefer a three night trip minimum for all the effort, time and expense it takes to get a family up lake on houseboat. To me anything less feels like a diminished return and only gives you one full day up there on a beach.

If you add arrival in the marina the day/night before an early up lake departure the next morning and a day at the back end to return to the marina, clean up, rest and you depart for home early the next morning it’s a six day/five night commitment. (If you get off a beach, back to the marina, dump tanks, refuel, clean up, pack out and travel home in one day it’s a Herculean effort that will leave you exhausted the next day, it’s a lot) So that brings boating up lake with my young people to a close this year but my wife and I will get a few trips in yet this year with good friends and family in what I consider to be the best season of year on LP by far.

Hard to believe, it went fast, always does! I raised my kids on this lake from babies on. Now my son is 21 and will be graduating from NAU next year and my daughter turns 16 next month. Time Flies!

PS- I spent a lot of my life enjoying myself out on Lake Powell, the rest of it I just wasted. (A Steven Wright adaptation)
