Hack, Gordo and I left Mesquite around 430am on Friday. Picked up the boat around 8 bought some ice and headed to the launch ramp. No one was waiting when we arrived. It was my first launch off of concrete ramp. It was not a big deal but I could see issues coming with houseboats getting pulled in and out. Rock to metal grates sketchy. Headed up lake. Very little traffic for a Friday. Headed to Last Chance. Found a great spot in second cove in. Set up camp, did a quick float to cool off and went fishing. We caught several bass on Ned rigs and craws. A couple of very nice largemouth and a nice walleye. Water temp was 84.4 degrees. All of this was in sight of camp. Headed back in for a quick bite and another float. Saw some splashes so we had to investigate. Stripers were boiling and very agressive. Caught most them on topwaters and castmasters. Nothing big but fun fighters and I like the size for eating. There were a few smallmouth mixed in with the boils. I also caught another walleye. Most boils were occurring in 40 to 60 feet of water. After boils went down, we caught several jigging. We had great plans to catfish but floating and cocktails ruled the day. I got up early while the midnight floaters slept in. I caught stripers and smallmouth from a point by camp. All on topwater. It was a blast. Finally on the water by 7am. Headed up toward Friendship and Rock Creek. Friendship had no houseboats and not many decent spots due to low water. Graphed many baitballs in the back of Friendship in 40 to 60 feet but only a few active fish. We did catch a few stripers and headed out to make some phone calls. Then it happened. Several boils got going between the entrance to Rock Creek and to the entrance of West Canyon. We filled the cooler with stripers mostly on topwaters and decided it was time for some spam and cheese and of course another float. We did not see another boat as we fished the morning. Back to camp. Broke and loaded camp to find some early shade on the other side of Last Chance Bay. There were a few houseboats but not many on the main channel and they all had at least one wake boat. It was supposed to rain but luckily it dodged us. We decided to forgo afternoon fishing due to wind and chance of rain. A little lightening and a few drops late in the afternoon. The boys wanted some fish nuggets for an appetizer. The main meal was blackened striper with Mexican rotel and Ranch style pinto beans. Up and on the water early. No fish activity. Went into Gunsight. Only 3 houseboats. There were many whales lurking. Nothing going on boil wise. Headed in very little traffic coming out. Maytag was almost calm. No wait on the ramp but by Sunday there was definitely some damage between the rock base and metal plates. Another great trip to Powell. Plenty of fish and plenty of water, just keep the ramp open. Believe it or not I actually may be able to post a picture.
