South End Fish Report:
Launched the boat about noon on Friday. Purpose of the trip was to scout beaches for the upcoming Man Trip in May. Don't worry there are beaches everywhere. Just make sure you have plenty of room for rising water. Started in Dove and caught none. Stopped at mm25 to check stripers. They are there. Got late and decided to spend the night in Friendship. It looks like a moonscape. Lots of beaches though. Water temp was 56 and the wind was chilly. Sat morning we slept in until 7am. Headed to the back of Rock Creek. Talked to a group of 4 who caught smallies in the back of main rock creek. We headed to dry Rock Creek to find murky water. The wind kept blowing on Sat. Luckily we found a great shelf that was holding largemouth and smallies in the back. All areas produced fish. Continued our scouting mission in Last Chance. Water clarity is about 25 feet. Caught some nice smallies in the evening in a couple of coves. Water temp got to 58. Cleaned fish and fixed a great batch of fish tacos. Sunday fished briefly on sunny side of Last Chance and caught one smally. Water temp was 55. Headed in for the long drive around. It only took one tour boat to wreck the entire Maytag Straits. Long no wake zone going toward the dam from Wahweap. Very few boats were venturing uplake. There were lots of boats fishing at mm3. Fished with small 3 inch red sparkly green crawdads with 1/8 oz and 1/4 oz sliding sinkers Texas style. Partner was using Ned rig and did well with brown and light green. Slow presentation. Most fish in the 12 to 15 foot zone. Did not see one fish shallow. Need some heat.
