We were in San Juan the last week of March. It was surprising how low the lake was! The first two days were warm with some spots at 62 degrees in the afternoon. Largemouth and smallmouth were both caught. Friday and Saturday cold air and wind dropped temperatures down to 54-56 degrees. Fishing was much slower. Smallmouth were caught right next to the shore as it was the warmest in that area. Most fish were caught about half way back into a bay or cut.
Both single tail grubs and tubes seemed to work best for us.
The jerk baits did not do the trick for us on this trip. I’ll need to practice and spend more time with this technique.
Looking forward to the end of April to fish one of the most beautiful lakes in the world! Powell is wonderful.
Good luck to all!
