TR, just a suggestion for you, we had the same problem in a blue fin, ended up being the ethanol softened up the draft tube on the fuel tank, pulled the anti siphon valve thinking I had a sticking ball and still did it with new valve, took out the draft tube and it would wiggle like a noodle, just a thought.

Thanks Roscoe, good timing. I have the tank emptied and went the way of the sticking valve as well (it was fine)Could not get the nut off the tank to get in further, but I will work on that and give it a shot. Appreciate the advice.

"Danger! Do not loosen with a heat wrench" he wrote with his remaining hand. :-)

@TR. and @ROSC

It sounds like a similar experience. I got on the boat knowing one engine was acting up. It ran fine up until about Iceberg, then it would surge from our cruising RPM of 2800, down to about 1800. Tried changing fuel filters and no better. Kept doing that until we stopped in the main channel around Escalante and changed the fuel pump.

Not sure why, but that seemed to solve our problem. For a while. Until we got to about the mouth of the SJ, then both engines started doing it.

We ran about 8 miles up the SJ, and both engines died. For about an hour we messed with the fuel system. Luckily there wasn't much "W", but we still had to hook a ski boat up to the hotel to keep it in the main channel.

After a while, I got one engine back up, so we motored back towards the mouth and found a spot.

Did a bunch of troubleshooting on the dead engine, to no avail, so I knew for most of the trip we would be limping back on one engine.

That one did fine until about Hole in the Rock, then started acting up. We went from being able to cruise at 2800 RPM to 2500 RPM to 2000 RPM. Then everything went down at about Halls. The short version is that it took me 2 hours to go from about the Halls boat ramp, back to our slip. I finally got the engine started, and idled in. Again, lucky there was no "W" that afternoon.

I was one more stall away from calling Exec for a tow back in.

We think it might be the anti siphon valves as well. But I am not sure. Just glad that I got the boat back to the slip.

But I don't want to focus on that, because we had a great time.

I would post some more photos, but I fear that I will upset the internet police because some might involve activities that they would not approve of.....

We towed our 60' Skipperliner from the mouth of the SJ to Bullfrog one year. Before cell phones were prevalent, we hailed for hours, all the way up the main channel from the SJ, to get a tow with no response. Not a fun trip.

Illegal is rather subjective as you can see by some of the recent topics and comments. I think when someone calls someone else out for doing something "illegal", they shouldn't be surprised if they get a little ribbing back if they are doing something "illegal".

Thanks for derailing the thread again.

I am not an over religious man, but the saying of "let he who is without sin throw the first stone" seems fitting here. I am glad you follow the law 100% of the time. Your virtue is obviously an example to others, and I should take heed.

If I knew you, and felt it was good natured, it would be one thing, and I could take it as "a little ribbing". And I would be good with that.

But I don't know you. And it comes off as nannyish. I'd rather you move on out of my thread.

If you bothered reading my previous post in another thread where I pointed out that many people (including myself and the virtuous folk on this board) have done "illegal" things (like the high crime of feeding spiders to carp), you'd find I'm the last person to "throw the first stone". I couldn't care less if your group rides the transom. Just thought it was ironic that you were hoping for the Park Service to clamp down on one "act" while you posted a picture of your group doing one of the most ticketed violations in the park. Irony...that's all.

Ryan, I loved your photos and thank you for posting them.

I think we all do a little good natured ribbing here from time to time. Hopefully all in the spirit of good fun. I'm also pretty sure we all wink at a few boating rules from time to time -- especially those that don't make sense on a remote part of the lake like raising an orange flag every time a skier falls.

Please post more photos! They give me a good Lake Powell fix as I sit at work.

Nice pictures. Most never get to enjoy the views from above. The hike UP was always my favorite. The hike DOWN was always killer on my bum knee.
