The items referenced above may explain the DANGER buoy that is in place
just as you start up towards the Great Bend. I approached it very slowly and found
nothing unusual near it.
Any ideas what it means?
We think there’s a water quality testing station there, that looks like a danger buoy

Approx. 3,589' lake level

Devils Potty Arch!
We are glad to know the name for it...I think it is underwater most times we have been in the area!

Glad he did not flush while we were below!

I finally saw Devils Potty Arch and I didn’t get a picture, just didn’t do it. I looked for it on my phone to add to this and didn’t have one. A little disappointed in myself but I am glad lots of you got pictures so I can look at them! LOL

I saw that buoy in the past, and have no idea why it is there. I originally thought it might be an entranced marker for Great Bend, but it is not labeled that way. Either way, there can be a lot of floating debris, such as is listed above in the area, so you need to be aware of it.

TDecker says he is not Good at posting pics - so he sent this to me.
This "HoleintheRock" is across from Lake Canyon mouth, just a little ways uplake. He has never seen it before - but with low lake levels there is a lot of new scenery!!!

Does anyone have an official name for it?? It was about 18 - 20 ft above water level and 10-12 ft across - so might still be able to drive under??

Anyone have good directions on how to get here. We will be camping at Padre bay June 10-17 and would love to go here.

Any theories as to how a giant tractor tire ended up there? I'm sure you've seen many strange items in all of your trips. I'd love to hear/see any of the odd stuff you (and any others) remember seeing.
After 8 years without having a boat, we're coming back this year, but I remember in some of our earlier boating years seeing a bunch of wrecked boats on shore (or on the surface) with the low water levels. Are there still many of those left around the lake?

My guess on the tire is that it broke loose from one of the break waters, floated down stream and finally sank.

I’ve seen a number of those tires floating over the years. Sure would ruin your day to hit one.

I’ve reported the ones i have seen. But they are always still in the lake by the time we have to leave to go home.

The buoy is a sediment collection location (they have a tag on the top of the buoy) that was installed after the Gold King mine issue. There are several sediment buoys all the way down to Cha Bay

We suspected it was related to the Gold King spill, that’s why we were guessing water quality monitor. We haven’t gone much beyond the start of the great bend the past few years, but have seen the buoys from Cha to the Great Bend

I had never heard of sediment buoys. But I do know at 3660' there's one gravel hill that is a prime whale where you want to cut the corner.

As for the tire, I'm curious if it was really old, like pre 60's when they did mining up in the waterpocket above this. There's an old air strip on that mesa towards Annies.

We hiked to the top of it yesterday but had second thoughts about jumping through. Another boat pulled up and those young guys gave it a shot. Pretty fun to watch.
