Here are the rainbow pictures, I also had another one on but lost in a bush as we were bouncing off the Bushes for walleye. Hooking rainbow trolling with in the first foot of hook up they launch straight out of the water like a torpedo. We both caught 19" walleye. Monday we were on the lake by 4:30 am. We set our track on the fish finder. Thank you Dallas it was awesome trip with hopefully many more to come. I'm a new member on waynes words but have been fishing the lake since 2000 with many good trips with my friend Dallas.

Well….i was firmly in the camp that it was a silvery, colorless rainbow….but after seeing the markings on the back, those are tiger trout markings and like no rainbow I’ve ever caught.

It’s one ugly trout, no matter what camp he belongs to 😂

Looks like a great trip guys! Glad you enjoyed yourselves!

I’m no more expert! But that whiteish crud is just wind blown surface foam. Not the toxic stuff. The nasty Cyanobacteria (Blue green “algae”) forms a brilliant puke green color. True algae is also usually filamentous, and form mats. Pic below is Cyanobacteria…

You are correct. Algae has colors. The foam surrounding everything can come from a variety of different mineral or biological sources, but is not algae. There is no way of effectively identifying what you are looking at without a microscope. Nasty stuff, but generally not harmful.

I agree on that allso. It looked like a rainbow, but the one picture is definately a Tiger trout 👍
With it just laying flat, I would have bet it was a Rainbow. But those guys might be the first to catch a Tiger from Powell😊

Went down on Thursday night spent night in upper parking lot . Worked on the boat , meet up with Rush and Buddy and went out on the lake at about 11. Was trolled up on Slurp by the Dome Rock . It turned out to be the 6" Stripers . Came back at about 5:00 and started trolling up bigger fish . Just decided to to fish the Dome the next day , and me and my fishing buddy Jeb did ok . Small cranks flicker shad and minnows #5 . Noticed on Sunday the bigger Stripers did not have the biggest filet , think there would have been snakes any other year .They where not in big schools but more like singles .
The big storm blew in on Saturday night I had to strap up my Tent to my cot. Also noticed the Algea all over and mainly in the bay we stayed at I thought it was soap and pollution but it was all over the place .
Got up early on Monday and went straight for the Dome , We caught some nice Walleye , meet up with Rush ,played Stick with the dogs and started trolling to the camp to pick up .
Then my buddy Jeb caught a 14" Rainbow Trout. I thought it was a Tiger Trout, but we sent pictures out @KYKevin and @last wild human . They told us it was a rainbow , strange colors .
This was an ugly fish and not a great pic but it’s a tiger trout. Obvious markings when it was flopping before the release and Buddy chasing it off. Then that night another one was caught at bullfrog docs on an anchovy. Never seen one in Powell then two in a day, hmm. Good to see you Dallas.

If you look at the original picture of the trout laying on its side, you can see the very faint "vermiculations" of a tiger.

Biology Lesson
Tiger trout are a cross between a Brown Trout and a Brook Trout.
Brown trout are a true "trout". They have a light colored background with dark colored spots. Same with Rainbow trout.
Brook trout are a "char". They have a dark background with light spots. Opposite of trout.
When you cross the two different groups, you get a fish with no spots, but rather "vermiculation" looking patterns of light and dark areas. This is what tiger trout do.

Zoom in on that original picture. Those aren't spots you're looking at -- those are splotches. Combine that with the other picture (post #22, middle picture), and you have your answer: it's a tiger trout.

PBH is correct. Tiger Trout.
Ky Kevin’s fish from the mouth of striper is most likely a rainbow as he said.
Not a kokanee tail is not forked enough it also has spots near and on tail unlike a koke.
I picked up A floating dead striper in Bullfrog a couple years back with a walleye stuck in throat!
