Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is seeking input from the public in an effort to consider alternatives to the current concession contract structure. Some alternatives that could be considered include using Commercial Use Authorizations or leases in place of a concession contract to provide certain services.

With two of the larger contracts held within Glen Canyon needing to be renewed, this presents an opportunity to restructure contracts in such a way as to address increased visitation, changing visitor use, and to increase efficiency in managing contracts. Glen Canyon is reaching out to the public to solicit ideas for consideration in the commercial services and contract development process.

This public comment opportunity is not part of a formal environmental planning and compliance process and is not legally mandated. However, the Park feels that the public can provide valuable insight, perspective, and ideas to assist in developing manageable contracts that provide needed visitor services that will meet Park management objectives. Substantive comments and input will not be responded to by the Park, but will be considered in the development of potential contract options and will help inform the contract development process.

Interesting. What are the two “larger contracts” they’re talking about? Of course Aramark but what else? Does Antelope Point Marina have such a contract? And this also infers that there are other contracts as well? I didn’t know that

I think that to provide any services at Powell requires a contract. I don't think any one can even pull a boat for a fee without a contract. APM and Aramark are the biggies. I'm not sure how the Navajo Nation interacts with the NPS but I suspect a contract exists between them as well. Sounds like a shake-up might be coming even if it is at a snails pace.

Just sent my bitch list to NPS. We are dry stored at Halls and never get the same services, support or available staff - as BF. I urge EVERYONE that uses Halls to report their experiences and problems there. Without lots of public input - we will not see much in improvements. For the increased prices and cuts in staff and services - we need to point out these failures. (I did compliment the staff they do have - just need more and willing people!!) Hope we are not just pis.... into the wind!!!
