I was out a couple of weeks ago and left the morned HB in the north field of BF and SUP’d across to the slickrock peak even with the covered HB slips off executive. I got in trouble when the wind that showed up 3hrs early left me stranded on the west shore. The mud is a real dangerous issue right now. I sunk up to my waist crossing a 3’ wide feeder creek while trying to walk against the wind to the north end of BF bay. If I didn’t have my SUP to get unstuck with, I’d probably still be there. Then I had to use my 2 piece paddle as snowshoes to cross 25’ of mud to get to the waters edge from the beach so I could blow back to my HB. As embarrassing as it is, it took me 3hrs to walk 1.5mi to get out of a bad spot. And I hike and backcountry everyday. I could have sheltered in place but I like to torcher myself. Point being, if the wind comes up and blows u to shore, most shores are quick sand type mud and u can’t make it on land with your setup or any boat without mud being a big issue. I would tool around the side u put in at. Just know the entire BF bay as far as I could see was pretty much impassable from the waters edge.
Thanks for the report. I;m planning another Hike across BF and Hall's Creek in a month. I did an October hike trip across North end of BF bay. Yes, the mud is very tricky and dangerous. You think you're on top and 5 seconds later you're sinking. With a pack it's doubly so. The feeder streams look safe but I had to go very high to dodge them. I had to stay hundreds of yards to get to firm ground on the crossings, and if its going to rain you will be stranded for awhile. typically the faster the streamlet the more stable base it had. Glad you got out. But that mud is hard to get off.
