Outboard vs I/O

OK, let
Let's end the whole debate right now (with an evil laugh).Function of an outboard and torque of an inboard?
The thing looks like a BEAST!
If you notice, the motors themselves don't turn. Just the lower unit.
Upgrade for that new boat Havelina? ;)
Enjoy.

Thanks for that, Dave! So love seeing new and innovative boat stuff.

As I watched it, it struck me....I/Os always had 'just the gearcase' turn....not the whole motor.....:)

ALSO loved the counter rotating props.

Counter rotating prop story:

When I took off the 1979 vintage Volvo 280 single prop drive off my 28' Bayliner and replaced it with a 'duo prop' outdrive....OMG....what an amazing difference!

It was like going from a 350 Chevy to a big block...(454) ....and.......the boat never needed trim tabs again.....we actually skied behind it...:)

I’ll see your Verado, and raise you an LT-4.

A Malibu with an LT4 Starts at $225,000. I'll stick with my lowly $77,000 outboard. Thanks anyways. Hahahaha

And I can also live without all the dirty looks at the dock when launching a wave boat at Powell.

But seriously, my 60 hp Command Thrust on my pontoon does us just fine. Both these engines would sink my old girl. haha

I don't know if that type of boat really needs that much horsepower, but, oh well!

Soooo, when does your New Malibu come in ?? Sq
Reminds me of my favorite prayer. "and, lead me not into temptation. I can find it myself...." ;)

You still have to have a boat to hang it off of. And, FWIW, the LT4 is "only" an $18k upgrade over the base engine. I think it is around $9k vs the 6.2l M6DI.

I have the 450 HP LS3. Runs great at Powell, but honestly, when we are at elevation, I would welcome more power. When I do upgrade, if we stay in the same type of boat, I would check the LT4 box.

One thing you have to consider....
You couldn't pay some of us enough to take a wakeboat, so even at an "only" $18k upgrade....
I know people that use them, love them.
Others consider them the giant mosquito of the lake and would rather have "glass" for their activities.

Besides, the wake boats are made for pulling power and don't have a whole lot of speed compared to an outboard with a huge weight ratio difference and can reach those higher speeds.

Everyone has their own preference though.
Most importantly.....Safe boating, be courteous, have fun and drink plenty of water.

My 1992 Chaparral Signature 280 cabin cruiser has twin 4.3L V6's with Duoprop drives. With significantly damaged props(not efficient) on one sterndrive I could do 32 mph at Powell. I destroyed the damaged ones in Red Canyon before Memorial day. I replaced them with downsized props as I believe it was still propped for sea level, and did 31.1 mph at McPhee Reservoir(6850ft) a few weeks ago. Duoprop technology is amazing to me and I'm curious what my top speed will be at Powell. The downside is that I have 4 props to deal with/pay for.
