We troll for stripers up at Trachyte in October. We always get walleye whenever our cranks start hitting the bottom....

So what are good crankbaits that will go 10-15 feet by casting, or trolling also?
 
Reef Runners 800 series are my go to. They run down to 25 feet trolling and 10 - 12 casting this big lure. Big action trolling. Great success with walleye, striper and SMB. Recommend changing middle hook to a red hook... available on X-tackle. XTackle Redefining Fishing Tackle Distribution. I don't have anything to do with this company... just a one stop shop.
 
We have had good luck targeting Walleye with bottom bouncer rigs. 1.5 oz or 2 oz bottom bouncer with 3 foot double hook worm harness and spinner in clown or firetiger color have worked. We launch at Wahweap so we do fish the lower lake with these rigs. Where you find one, there is almost always a few more in that same area. We have caught them in Padre Bay and as far up as Oak Canyon. We have not tried uplake but it does seem like most of the reports come from there. We have also caught them in the lower lake while casting lures for bass but not very often. I have to show you my personal best 25 inch Walleye caught off a mud line point on a Strike King Red Eyed Shad.

we use all sorts of cranks -- whatever shows on the packaging that they'll go 12-15' (or 15-20'). I'm cheap. I don't like spending a ton on tackle that I know has a high chance of snagging and breaking (or breaking in a fish). So I try to avoid the expensive cranks. I know that you sometimes get cranks that won't run straight....but oh well...

The brand / model always changes. One year, the hot lure will be a Norman. The next year it will be rattle traps. Then Storm. Berkley flickers. Walley Divers. You just never know what's going to work the best from year, to year.

I like to hit the bargain bins at Cabela's or Sportsman's warehouse and pick up a good assortment of cranks. I usually try to buy 2 of the same lure, just in case.

We also try to make sure we have extra hooks to replace broken trebles.

Thank you for the info, I have never really fished cranks, probably because I don’t know how, is the bigger the bill the deeper they go?
 
it should tell you the depth on the box. Some cranks will also have it marked on the lip, or body somewhere.

But the best way to tell how deep is when you start to bump bottom! if you run over a 15' hump, and you start hitting bottom, then you've got a crank running at least 15'! :)
 
l do a lot of different types of fishing. We have somewhere around 50 rods, from 3 weight to 15 weight fly rods. Conventional, Spinning for salt water inshore and offshore, travel, Jigs, plugs and lures for anything from bluegill to Bluefin Tuna. So...I ain't spending $25 on a walleye lure :)

Cabelas Fisherman Series 3.5" Walleye Runner plug in Firetiger and sexy shad colors have caught us a ton of all species at LP over the years, and they are often on sale for $1.99. I change out the hooks with VMC 4X strong trebles in size 4. They will eventually get out of tune or break, but I always keep a half dozen ready for a trip. KVD 5XD in Sexy Shad or similar also is a go to lure, they are very tough. An advantage of both of these lures is that they float. If you get cut off by a mussel or a rock, you can almost always circle back and spot it on the surface and re-tie.
