Day 1.

Wind was windier than forecasted… :)

Water temps were anywhere from 56 to 64 up in the dirtier water. Fishing wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible. The only thing we couldn’t ever find was some walleye dispute hitting some of our favorite haunts. We used mostly smaller swim baits and Nixon caught a nice largemouth and a very nice Crappie on a rattletrap. Lake isn’t busy at all right now. Probably only saw ten boats today. Water begins to be discolored past the bathroom in ghb (green) and then browner the more north you go. Side areas and even the brown water up to the castle butte area is still fishable.

Nixon has finally graduated from having to double arm hold Largies (a little bitter sweet to see), Cass caught his first fish all on his own with a smaller Striper he was very proud of dispute him not smiling (he doesn’t smile in pictures…), and my girls caught some as well. Cass caught his a month after his fourth birthday and just missed the cut for being included with his siblings on reaching that milestone being 3 ha.

I was able to recover the net that Cass dropped in October of 23’ and we of course scrubbed it and used it to land Nixon’s nice largemouth an hour later since I hadn’t replaced it yet.

Todays totals were probably 20ish Stripers, Same Smallmouth, fiveish Largemouth and a few Crappie. Definitely the day after a cold, cold front. The next few days in the warming pattern should help a lot but fishable water up in GHB is time limited.

What a Crappie!
Anything grow on your net while taking a bath the last two years?

Looks like you and your crew had a great trip. Even “slow” fishing at Powell is better than most lakes!

Curious if you think it would be worth camping up at GHB or try to find somewhere a bit south with the mudline? We will be on the water Wednesday-Saturday…

Dang Preston, you’re looking fit these days. Nice work man!

Day 2.

About 20/30 fish better than yesterday and finally found a walleye! Still fished north but didn’t go as far today. I am embarrassingly mistaken with water clarity from yesterday. Green water starts near tapestry and gets greener to the ghb bathroom. Still fishable below there and many places above. Not sure how long it will last but it isn’t chocolate milk yet. Still a few feet visibility below the bathroom and varies from there depending on which cove or canyon you are in in good Hope. Sorry @Dorado i can’t be of more help, I’d say camp somewhere mid and then fish up.

Same variety as yesterday but just a bit better today. You can just see in front of your eyes the fish getting a little shallower and recovering from the last front. Will only get better each day. Water temps we fished today were mostly in the low 60’s. Still used mainly smaller swim bait lures but also green pumpkin curly tails, and spider jigs.

My report could probably be a bit better and detailed but I was wrangling all my kids lol which was amazing. Being able to be with all of them and here with my Dad is what my dreams are made of. There is of course the usual PITA situation but it’s amazing, just need to convince the wife more often now…

Lake is still relatively quiet but I’m guessing that will change shortly.

Notes on some of the pics…
My live well pumps need changing so haven’t kept any fish this time, let the girls have two per fish for a while and then we are eating the walleye tonight, couldn’t not keep that one. Sank the Stripers. A few were in decent shape but most of the non juvenile ones were skinny.

Pretty impressive you guys catch as many fish as you do with so many youngsters on board! Always looks like everyone is having a great time…

Thanks again for the Intel, hopefully we won’t have too hard of the time finding a camp spot. When Good Hope and red Canyon are not available, it really limits the number of camp spots up north!

Memories with family is what it is all about. My dad took me fishing on a regular basis as a kid and now I try to take him with me fishing when we can make our schedule work.

We all appreciate your reports. I’ll return the favor and report on the trip I have with my dad and friend.
