Day 1.
Wind was windier than forecasted…
Water temps were anywhere from 56 to 64 up in the dirtier water. Fishing wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible. The only thing we couldn’t ever find was some walleye dispute hitting some of our favorite haunts. We used mostly smaller swim baits and Nixon caught a nice largemouth and a very nice Crappie on a rattletrap. Lake isn’t busy at all right now. Probably only saw ten boats today. Water begins to be discolored past the bathroom in ghb (green) and then browner the more north you go. Side areas and even the brown water up to the castle butte area is still fishable.
Nixon has finally graduated from having to double arm hold Largies (a little bitter sweet to see), Cass caught his first fish all on his own with a smaller Striper he was very proud of dispute him not smiling (he doesn’t smile in pictures…), and my girls caught some as well. Cass caught his a month after his fourth birthday and just missed the cut for being included with his siblings on reaching that milestone being 3 ha.
I was able to recover the net that Cass dropped in October of 23’ and we of course scrubbed it and used it to land Nixon’s nice largemouth an hour later since I hadn’t replaced it yet.
Todays totals were probably 20ish Stripers, Same Smallmouth, fiveish Largemouth and a few Crappie. Definitely the day after a cold, cold front. The next few days in the warming pattern should help a lot but fishable water up in GHB is time limited.
