Wednesday and Thursday morning last week, the fishing was unreal. We fished just north, around the point from Moqui, and the boils were stretched out a 1/2 a mile long! We had 5 rods all tied up with 3/4oz to 1oz silver Kastmasters. For like 2 hours each morning we chased the boils around, catching em almost every cast. Then later in the morning when the fish would go deeper, so we spot-locked right over the top of them and with the same Kastmasters we vertical jigged them. The fish were hanging between 40-60’, we would drop our spoon down to 70’ and then reel it fairly quick right up thru the school and BAM….fish on! To make it easier I had every Kastmaster rigged with a single hook, instead of the treble the come with. That saves on time getting the fish unhooked, so you can get right back out there! What a fun week of ripping lips!! We probably caught 75-100 fish each morning…my thumbs are sore haha!

Did you get into any/many of any size?

What was the percent that were fat and healthy vs skinny?

I’d say a lot of the 16-20” fish were really healthy and fat. We did catch quite a few that were bigger, but probably 60% of the bigger ones were very skinny. I will say, the bigger fish came from deeper water while those smaller fish were on the shallower end of the schools. Sometimes we weren’t able to get our jigs past the small ones to try and target the bigger class of fish.

The kids had an absolute blast! Most of these kids had never caught a striper before…I’d say they’re hooked now!

Nice report. Is it true they are putting electricity at the camp grounds around Bullfrog? That will be great but of coarse more expensive but worth it. My generator is not powerful enough to run A/C.

I am trying to go to Bullfrog this weekend , last time I was down , July 2nd A loop was finished but they didn't have it opened , because they haven't figured how to charge for it ? , that's how Aramark runs things ,
My brother is going down on Thursday , hopefully it is open.
 
Please give us an update. I’m finally to a point where I can get to the lake at least a couple times this year when it cools off a little. Sq
 
Thanks, the addiction of Lake Powell overcomes the pain in the leg, no pun intended. I’m just not looking forward to the loooong walk up the boat ramp, if there’s a ramp left by the time I get down there. That’s what worries me, haven’t got the Bayliner wet yet this year. Sq
