Nice Bluegills

I had a Bluegill on toasted bunn, home made tarter sauce, lettuce, and pickles yesterday, fresh from the day before. Its my new favorite fish sandwich.
I don't mind filleting them, but you probably fillet with an electric knife. And I use a 4" hand, on everything I fillet, its probably a thinner blade then electric.
These mussel fed gills are going to be fun to say the least.
Come on Dan Keller put those Redears in Powell 🥳
I agree with the Redears. Caught a bunch at Lake Havasu this winter most were in the 2-1/2 to 3 lb range my buddy did catch a nice 4lb 6 oz one. They are strong fighters.
AMEN to Reds.
But, only if you enjoy catching 5lb. sunfish….

Sweet Supe
I have caught them when I was a kid, but never big ones. What month did you guys get them, and how deep do they stay in the winter? Its on my bucket list 😊
Thanks
We mostly caught them in the month of March in less than 20 feet of water using light line and a small jig head with half of a crawler. That is all that they will hit. Nice fillets and best eating. They were also catching them off the docks at the marina on the south side of the lake near the dam.

Thanks for the info.
Have you ever tried big brown crickets, they are great Bluegill bait.

No I haven’t. I bet they would work well. When you headed to Powell again. We will be at Halls Marina Thursday on our annual fishing trip with the boys. 4 boats 8 guys. We usually head down to the San Juan arm if the weather is good for the first 3pr 4 days. And then we will come back to the houseboat then then we’ll head up north. Maybe we’ll see you there.

Sounds like a big get together, and a great time. My son Chad and I may be there the 22nd or 23rd. We will probably stay close, I got the Bluegill fever after the last trip. Hope we can run in to each other in Bullfrog while your here. Would love to talk about Havasu😊. I want to fish these little jigs for those Red ear. But when I go, I will have some crickets to try all so.

Will do for sure. I have never met you in person but I did speak to you on the phone once. I was selling the land of lime and you called on it. We spoke for a while and you told me that you had been on that houseboat a lot with the original owner. My name is Clint. I have a newer 22 foot black and silver metallic Skeeter. My fish a lot of light tackle for Croppie and bluegill and whatever else I can catch. Have a great rest of the weekend. Thanks.

We will be camping with a couple pontoon boats around the rincon Thursday-Monday. Swing by and we can trade some beverages for a fishing lesson!

Got into the nicest Bluegills that I have caught in a while. Was getting a bonus Crappie now and again all so. I had forgotten how hard a hand size Bluegill fight. Caught 60 nice Bluegill for the trip, along with some nice Crappie, Striper, LM, Smallmouth, and Walleye.
I went for Crappie, but bad wind Monday put me on the Bluegill. And I will take the hard fighting gilligans anytime I find them. They are my favorite eating.View attachment 27358View attachment 27359
