New Wahweap Launch Ramp Opens October 1st

I spoke with an unnamed named source(Lisa ) with the state yesterday. Launching for smaller boats will be as normal without restrictions after Oct. 1. They do intend to put a courtesy dock at the Gustaveson Ramp shortly after they close down the Wahweap Aux ramp.

On October 1st the Wahweap Auxiliary ramp will open for launching all boats in the southern lake. We are currently using the 2 lane ramp (Metal plates) to the right of Wahweap Main ramp which is out of the water. Here are some pictures of the ramp which is accessed by driving down the Stateline ramp and taking a right turn about half way down the ramp. There is a huge parking lot on the flat prior to reaching the ramp. Access the ramp by staying to the right side of the parking lot when entering and leaving the ramp. Currently only houseboats are being launched on this new ramp. The new plan is to launch all boats on the new ramp beginning in October. The ramp currently being used at Wahweap will then be closed when the new improved ramp begins operation and is found to be in great working condition.

I express my gratitude to NPS for adding this new launching access to Wahweap so we can still use the lake in our personal boats for the rest of the year.
I hope for lots of snow and higher water in the year to come. WG

Is it OK for the person launching and retrieving a boat to use a kayak? To get to and from the boat?

My guess is that you can still launch a kayak from the main Wahweap ramp. I will try to find the answer to this tomorrow.

Stateline Auxiliary Ramp Open to All Boats October 1​

PAGE, AZ – As previously announced, the National Park Service at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, in partnership with NPS-concessioner Aramark, is excited to open the rehabilitated Stateline Auxiliary Ramp to all vessels beginning October 1.

According to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Superintendent William Shott, “Opening the Stateline Auxiliary Ramp to all vessel types achieves our goal to continue providing boater access to South Lake Powell even at historic low lake levels. We thank our partners at Aramark for helping with this significant accomplishment. The reach of this boat ramp will help ensure Lake Powell tourism remains an economic engine for the region.”

The Stateline Auxiliary Ramp is located in the park’s Wahweap District, the highest visitation area of Lake Powell, and is accessed via Highway 89 near Page, Arizona. There will not be limits on operating hours and boaters do not need to contact the National Park Service to schedule their activities. The Stateline Auxiliary Ramp is accessed from the Stateline Main Ramp. Boaters are asked to please prepare all boats in the Stateline Main Ramp parking lot before accessing the auxiliary ramp. Boat launch and retrieval will only occur on installed boiler plate materials and the useable area will be marked.

There will not initially be a courtesy dock at this new ramp. Therefore, no solo launching will be allowed until a courtesy dock is installed. You must have a boat operator and vehicle driver present to launch a vessel of any size. Please check Changing Lake Levels - Glen Canyon National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service) for updates about the status of courtesy docks at the Stateline Auxiliary Ramp.

Due to the availability of Stateline Auxiliary Ramp, the Wahweap Auxiliary Ramp will close to public use on October 1 until further notice.

It is imperative that boaters check the park’s website about the status of Stateline Auxiliary Ramp and other launch destinations before heading to the lake. Yes you can launch Kayaks at Wahweap Main ramp.

Any news on if the courtesy docks have been moved from old Wahweap ramp to new Stateline Aux? Stateline camera shows an Aramark workboat maneuvering in the vicinity of Stateline AM Oct 11. Headed back up in a week . The courtesy docks make things a lot easier.

So, Gem, do you cast and unlaunch your fishing baits? Sorry, I can't help myself.

Actually, when it's time to take your fishing gear out of the water and head in that's called de-deploy. As in "de-deploy the fishing gear"

Un-deploy just doesn't have that ring to it.
