IF YOU WANT TO SOAK BAIT (ANCHOVIES) I usually go down to the dam and throw out as far as I can next to the wall and let the
half chovie I use slowly drop on a 1/4 oz lead head jig. They always seem to hit on the drop and NEVER just hanging down at the end of
the line. I've done this at night also and caught them as fast as I could reel in.
Should work other places on the lake. JMO

Any time of the year is a good time to go but February is my favorite! Spooning stipers is my favorite. No traffic and plenty of schooled stripers are easy to catch and excellent eating when water temps are cold. I love coastal fishing but I really miss that lake!

I live in Colorado now (by choice) but I have thousands of dollars worth of rock cod and ling cod tackle. Used to go offshore Morro Bay Ca. Now I'm going once a year on a charter boat. California is a sportsmans paradise but the politics have ruined it for me. I could no longer give my taxes to that state. I was an hour from 8000ft in the Sierras and an hour and a half to the ocean. Miss that part.

Well, we should do some trading. I have a lot of striper stuff. I run our boat out of Fort Bragg on weekends. I used to spend a month or so in the winter time when I was off at Lake Powell. If I didn’t catch at least 40 a day, I would go home. I caught so many darn stripers that it kind of bored me after a while so I thought I better go chase some fish in the ocean. Kind of hooked on those bluefin and albacore now. I could sure point you to a lot of spots that hold fish there but I rely on my graph to find them always on humps next to deepwater.

Welcome to the forum Dennis! The website is a great place to start and get yourself hyped up and go to Powell. I'm, sure you'll adjust just fine. Powell is an awesome place and the reason why we moved to Hanksville. 
I have had many people stop by and say the fishing is hot right now, and I have to warn you.... April (Spring in general) can be nasty on Powell due to wind. Bullrog Bay can see 4' swells if the conditions are right. My wife can attest to this and it's no fun in a smaller boat. Right now, the days are calm and 50-60ish in the late afternoon. Maybe go before springtime hits? Junction is close enough for an overnight trip.
On your way thru Hanksville, stop by and say hi. Many wording's do and I love to meet as many as I can.
Just look for Rabbitbrush Repair & Storage on the West side of the road before you get into town. Just look for the boats.
Have fun and enjoy the lake many of us do.

Looking forward to it! Been ice fishing on the Mesa here but having the boat wrapped and lakes here frozen is depressing. Central California was bass fishing all year. I even fished a few tournaments while it was snowing but 4 footers would be a no go for me in this new boat.Welcome to the forum Dennis!
