Was gonna say: Tell him to try a Mercury 14.6 x 18 or 19, etc. A lightweight ranger with that 350 should do 55-57mph at 6400 rpm.54 mph That is very impressive My buddies 622 Ranger will barely touch 50 with the 350HP engine.
BTW, I put a 4-blade Mercury 14.6 x 17 prop on ours and hit 59 mph recently at Lake Pleasant (with nobody else on the boat - was out fishing all day).
59 mph is at redline 6400 RPM made possible with the addition of the USP Marine Essential Performance kit.
I replaced Mercury’s stock intake muffler with a high flow tube, along with the supercharger intake, and the supercharger boost pipe plus high flow fuel filters (Added 35-50HP). The sound of the engine with no intake baffle is way more impressive and the supercharger sings around 5000 RPM and up!
59mph speed is measured with GPS Navionics app, so I believe accurate.
